which internet knife shop?

I am looking to get a couple of knives through the internet, namely a Busse SH2E and an Al Mar SERE 2000.

Are there any internet shops that you would recommend ahead of others? Living in New Zealand, it is harder to get problems corrected if something goes wrong (due to time zones and distances, mainly). This makes it important to get it right first time!

I hope that this post is in the right area - the joys of the first time!!:)

Great to browse through your discussions - an extremely interesting discussion forum.

Cheers

Even if you live in New Zealand, I recommend the knifecenter at
http://www.knifecenter.com. They have a large assortment of knives and related items, and I've ordered from them several times. I live in Sweden, and have had no problems with them.

Welcome to the forums! You've made some EXCELLENT first choices.

For the Busse Steel Heart 2E, I would either try to find a dealer (I don't know any), or call direct to Busse Combat and order it. It is safer that way, IMHO, and these days it doesn't take too long at all (if and when you call you could ask exactly how long). Here's the number to call:

419-923-6471 (though I don't know if you'd want to call them from New Zealand)

Or you could order over their website.

For the S2K, I'm not sure. If I were you, I'd do a net search for SERE 2000 and compare prices, etc. Sorry I can't help you more...my regular knife shop doesn't carry Al Mar Knives.

Check our own store 1SKS, and what they have. I know they have what you are looking for, and I am sure they can ship right to your door.

Thanks,

Your purchase supports these very forums.

I've been round and around looking at internet stores. Can someone explain how international orders vary so much to ship? I've been quoted prices from $9 to $50 for shipping for a cold steel para edges to England.

Plus they might not take VISA or require minimum order values.

It's a minefield out there!

Hi Cho,

I live in Auckland, New Zealand and the main thing to be concerned about is ABSOLUTELY ensure the shipping is tracked and insured. It does cost more, but I have lost knife orders before.

Also, request that the sender states "hand tools" or "Cutlery Items" - do not mention "knife" on the box.

Bear in mind that if the declared value of your goods exceeds $NZD400, you may be liable for GST on top (ie you can't pick up your stuff unless you pay!) Sometimes things slip thru, but be prepared to factor the cost in.

And obviously stick to reputable vendors that accept international orders - (I use Discount Knives mostly, which has variable service, but usually ok - he doesn't have Busee Combat tho, only Basics).

Good luck, and if you're in Auckland, maybe we can catch up.

Cheers,

I have only bought knives from a couple of of places, but these are the sites I'd recommend:

Knives & Things (Mike Payne): http://personal.mem.bellsouth.net/mem/m/i/mikepayn/

Bayou Lafourche (Roger Claunch): http://www.knifeworks.com/

AG Russell: http://www.agrussell.com/

Mike and Roger are great guys. If you don't see the knife you want, email them and they'll try to get it in for you at no extra charge.

AG's site is great for new knife enthusiasts - lots of great pictures and plenty of useful info on the knives. Sign up for his catalog while you are there.
