I'm in the modd for a new EDC knife and cant decide between the spyderco cat or centofante 3.Which would you prefer?

Cat has better blade steel and Carbon Fiber handles. I would probably go for cat due those.

The Centofante is super light and you won't be disapointed in the blade steel. However the centofante could be weak for certain tasks. For general EDC, I'd seriously consider the centofante.

I haven't gotten ahold of a Cat yet to do a real comparison, but the Centofante 3 is an incredible knife. It's also quite a bit bigger than the Cat.

They are two quite differnet knives so, it all depends on what YOU use YOUR knife for.
Ask yourself these questions:

Centofante 3 has a significantly longer, so do you need a knife that long?
Or do you have large hands? If you do, then the Centofante might be better suited for you ergonomically.

Cat has "better" materials, S30V/CF vs VG10/FRN.
Which appeals to you more?
How often are you ready to maintain your blade?

Hollow grind vs FFG.
Do your EDC tasks include cutting deep into the material?
If it does then FFG could be better. Though Centofantes blade is thinner so it might be a close race which is better in this regard.

Liner lock vs lockback.
Which do you like best?

And most importantly:
Which appeals to you aesthetically? Which one looks cooler to YOU?

Its really tough deciding between the better materials of the cat,and the lockback and handle size of the centofante 3.also im pretty sure the cat is taiwanese made and the centofante is japanese right?

You could get the Sage1 and have the best of both worlds. Larger size with s30v and carbon fiber.

the sage is a little out of my price range at the moment though but that looks like a great blade. Is the centofante made in seki city?

I've been guilty in the past of simply purchasing both and taking my time in deciding. The cream will rise to the top....

You are correct on the countries, but for a user the fit and finish should be just fine.
The Centofante 3 has a pretty polished and finished look but I've heard of the Cat having a bit of a subdued, mat finish on the metal parts.

I understand. You should be able to find one for around $86 shipped but I'm sure the two you're considering are quite a bit cheaper.

I suppose i would also like is for the knife to inspire pride of ownership if you know what i mean, which of the two would you be more proud to show off?

If the Cat is coming out of the factory with the same F&F as the Sages/Gayle Bradley then easily that. I have heard, however, they are not. The centofante knives are already pushing it for being too small for me though, the Cat frankly is too small to be the only knife you carry unless you have blade length restrictions, imo.
