Which is a better example: 119br or General?

I see where Cabelas still has the 'Pro Line General' available - and for a few dollars less than the lowest price I've found (evil-Bay) for a 119BR. Which would be a better example of Buck's fixed blade knives? I already have both a Pro-Line and a AG Vanguard, I basically want a 'traditional' hunter.

I know that the 119BR has a brass guard & pommel, as opposed to the standard 119's Al parts, but the shiney similar pair on the General look like polished Nickel... anyone know if they are? I assume the handle of the General is black phenolic, a la the standard 119. Thanks for any and all help!

PS I cannot get the 'Search' function to work - my screen just goes blank!

The pommel and fingerguard on the 120 are the same as the 119 standard version. Both are aluminum. Handles are phenolic. I prefer the brass 119BR myself, but you cant go wrong either way. (IMHO)

I don't like the Pro-Line message written across that beautiful blade.

I think buyknivesonline still has some Generals with the plain blade for an incredibly low price. You can't go wrong with those.

I 'won' a new 119br last night from a dealer on evil-Bay for $47 + $9.85 for s/h & ins. I lean towards wood/brass over phenolic/Al, as my knives get more staring than using. I'll add an addendum when it arrives. Thanks for the help!

Decent price. The 119BR is a beauty. If I had to choose either the 119 or 120 for a camp knife, I would take my 120 ProLine.

My 301 did yeoman duty (Heh heh... I said 'duty'!) opening the package at lunch today. Not bad - won it Sun PM - sent PayPal Mon AM - it's here Wed!

Well, I got another useless Buck knife. If I catch ANYONE using this beauty to cut anything, I'll probably blow a fuse. Seriously, the 119 is a work fixed blade knife... the 119BR is a 'Barbeque Knife', akin to the Texas-style fancy 'Barbeque Revolvers' you occasionally still see. Not pimpy pretty, but well appointed - and nicely holstered in that maroon leather. I got a deal. The seller, 'poor_fish', doesn't have much else I am interested in, but I would certainly bid again on something I wanted from him.

I've decided that my 'Pro Line' (wood grip) Vanguard may just be my 'user'... unless I get a Wally World gift card... then I'd get a regular 119. Believe me... the 119BR is nicely made and adorned - and well worth the usual $75+ I've seen it listed at in stores. Of course, I had to try... it shaves hand/arm hair from tip to near the hilt.

I now have a few regular 110's, 110Ti, 110AG, 119BR, Vanguard, Vanguard AG, and 301. I need more...

Wal-mart sells the 119 for around $35 if you don't mind the black handle and aluminum guard.

well Stainz..I also have both .The 120 is just my faverite. You dont have to stand as close to to deer to take out the back strap and other body parts.

Got a pic of one of those??? I've never heard that particular term..."barbecue revolver"... :p

(I used to own a "pimp" automatic...Colt Gold Cup .45 converted to Commander length, nickel plated, sim-ivory grips w/medallion...I was too embarrassed to carry it...but it was pretty) :barf: :)

Your on the right track.....ah 'trax...with the 1911 you had for fitting the term "barbeque revolver" (gun, pistol etc). How about we coin the phrase "barbeque knife". Things like the 500 Duke LE mastodon would certainly qualify as would all those 110s from the Custom Design spec sheet! I just picked up a Mastodon Duke for just such fancy occassions.

duh ... i dont under stand ... did i miss some thing...

Oh c'mon Dave, you know.....fancy and pretty and shiny and plated show-off guns and/or (hopefully now) knives for the Sunday-go-to-meetin' affairs. The 'social' partys where the too-fancy-for-EDC gets out to play. Correct me if I am wrong Stainz but I think that is where you were going with this. Personally, I like the 'barbeque weaponry' and not just for breakfast anymore!

I am particularly fond of S&W's Mountain Gun line - particularly in SS. I have two .45 Colt 625 MG's - and had a .44 Magnum 629 MG - those are common 'dress-up' candidates, as they come with a traditional tapered tube, partial lug, and blackpowder-style cylinder chamfer. A bit of custom engraving - and some stag grips - and you have a 'Sunday' or 'Barbeque' gun. Please note the difference between the aforementioned 'tasteful' adaptation and a gold-toned evil-bottom-feeder sporting pink grips - that's a 'pimp' gun! I guess it's like comparing that nice 119BR to a weird PRC-made combat 'conceptual' knife. I'll try to get a decent picture of my new 119BR and a very basic 625MG together. Neither is appropriate for the kind of barbecue I had in Birmingham for lunch today, of course.
