Which is a better knife ?
The Benchmade 690 or the William Henry t10-a.

By better I mean fit & finish & blade steel.
I believe the 690 is using 154cm, but do not know about the W.H. t10-a

Any insights are appreciated.

As much as I like Benchmade, I think the William Henry knives are as close to custom as you will get from a manufacturer. The T10 is a beautiful knife.

Keith.

William Henry is a better quality knife company, in my opinion. Their blade steel is ATS-34 which is the near equivalent of 154CM. Quality control on WH knives is at the top of the heap for production knife companies. BM has a more spotty reputation.

I just looked at the Alan Elishewitz designed 690 at BM's web site. That knife is Substantially larger than the WH T10 lancet.

The T10 specs are:
blade length: 2-5/8"
closed length: 3-1/2"
overall length: 6-1/8"
Weight 1.6 oz

The 690 stats:
blade length: 3 1/4"
closed length: 4.1"
overall length: 7.5"
weight 3 oz

These two knives could not be more different. One is a small gents pocket folder (no clip). The other is a tactical sort of design with a pocket clip. The WH will also cost about twice as much and would probably feel about half the size of the 690. In this size range, a half an inch change in blade length will dramatically increase the overall size of the knife.

I doubt you would be dissapointed with either knife. But the comparison of these two knives seems a little odd to me. They are completely different knives with different design purposes.

Happy shopping!

I have to agree with Para on this one. I think that the fact that my taste has moved away from tactical type knives (for the most part) and towards the smaller gents knives is one of the reasons that I prefer the WH. The main reason though is that the WH is a beautifully made great looking knife that is quality all the way.
What are you looking for in a knife? These two choices are so different, that it is hard to get a grasp on what exactly you want out of a knife.
Keith.

After your excellent analysis, Paracelsus, what more can one add? I mean, you pretty much said it all, and concisely.

My opinion would probably vary depending on my mood, quite honestly.

William Henry is indeed near custom in terms of fit/finish, and actually, better than many customs.

I've got no actual experience with either knife, just an opinion to offer.

Having interest in both of these knives, obviously from my past posts, I have been paying close attention to everything that is being said about them.

I personally believe that the WH is going to be the premier of the two. However, as stated before by our esteemed moderator Mr. Paracelsus, it is a "odd comparison".
I don't think of these two knives as being in the same category. Close, but no cigar.

So, as I mentioned before, it's only my opinion.
Take it for just that.

First I want to let you all know I appreciate all the responses to my post.

Second, I realise that the comparison was not an "apples-to-apples" comparison, but I have become bored with my usual choices of daily carry knives, ex. spyderco cricket, dragonfly, walker, and worker as well as gerber ar3.00 and Kershaw blackout.

I am looking for something a little fancier & these caught my eye.

I haven't seen the Benchmade 690 yet, other than in a magazine, however, if I wanted to choose one it would have to be the Microtech L.C.C. I have yet to see a production knife with such outstanding quality.
