Hi all, I've just been going through the Cold Steel website and could use some suggestions as to which of the following you prefer, and what you think would best fit my needs. The competition is between the American Lawman, the Recon 1, and the Code 4. All of them the normal size knife. Also, which type of blade do you recommend? I do not want tanto point, but don't see any non-cosmetic difference between spear and clip points. They will partially be used for around-the-house needs, but I will be a volunteer firefighter/EMT through high school; the next four years. Also, just something on the side, if someone could explain the different blade types and the specific uses pros and cons of each, including the different uses for the plain or half-serrated blades. Thank you for your feedback!

P.S. Price is not an issue, judge them as if they all cost the same.

I would avoid the Code 4...I don't find aluminum handles to be particularly grippy, and if you're doing firefighting/emt work I'd prefer something with a grippier handle material, like the G10 of the Recon or Lawmans.

Plain edges are fine for 90% of the things you would use a folder for...serrations are best used if you cut a lot of rope or fibrous material. They also cut better if the knife gets dulled, so if you hate resharpening or suck at it, serrations will continue cutting longer than a dull plain edge would.

Clip points tend to have a more acute point for finer piercing work, other than that the difference is mostly aesthetic.

I would recommend the Lawman. An excellent, tough and reliable folder and one of my personal favorite knives.
I think it would serve you well

Thanks for the suggestion. A lot of other people had also suggested the AL and it's nice to see a company actually providing advice about its products on an online forum.

You are welcome.
Thank you for considering Cold Steel. I'm sure whichever product you choose you will be very happy
Thanks and have a great day :)
