The title says it all:
Which is better for keychain carry (for wife) Ladybug or Jester?
and why? Or possible others? I'm not interested in getting a cricket, though.
Thanks.

I like the Jester over the Ladybug. I think the Jester has a more ergonomic handle. Near the tip of the blade it has some jimping which makes it easier to control the knife IMO. Both opening holes are small, but the Jester's is 9mm, a good 2mm larger than the Ladybug.

My girlfriend liked my Jester, but she liked my SS Cricket even more, so that's what she carries.

I favor the Ladybug more because of the blade shape. For utility I also like it better than the Cricket, too. Only wish the Ladybug will come in harder steel like Vg-10 someday.

I have only used the Ladybug serrated. It is almost invisible until I actually need it. It is a great little cutter.

I like the point on the Ladybug blade better for when I have to puncture something, but other than that I like everything better on the Jester. I agree with the previous comment that it's got a better handle and grip and the larger hole does a make a good deal of difference.

I going to say the ladybug. like the rest here, i think the point of the tip would suit a girl better. Besides, it has "Lady" in it's name!!!:D

I'm a big fan of the Ladybug....great little knife. I really like to "Spyderdrop" my Ladybug by using the weight of my keys.

Depends on the "lady" :D if she's knife knowledgeble then go for a Ladybug, but do be awere that it's not too good for prying and nether is the Jester with the plastic handels (or fiber something-I forget)

So if she's a gorilla on knives I'd go for the stainless handeled Jester! :D

The GF loved the PE Jester (in Pink) for her birthday. I've got a black PE Jester and love it. Great handle and blade.

As Krull says: "It depends on the lady".

My favourite would be the Ladybug II (the one with serrated sheepfoot blade), as its cuts yery well, has no "dangerous" tip and looks nice :)
But it is not easy to catch one (at least in europe)

But I also think one-hand-opening on it does not really work as the hole is very small (for my thumb).

Jester

Ridged thumb ramp and more ergonomic (IMHO) than the Ladybug. The Jester is one of those 'big, little knives' that seem to cut beyond its size.

The old Spyderco G-Sakai "Firefly" beats them both. I have had a yellow one for years but I just recently won a Black on Ebay about 3 weeks ago. I didn't even know that the black ones even existed. The light in the G-Sakai Spyderco models really works good. I wonder why that knife didn't take off any better. JD

Add an Arc AAA light to the Ladybug for a nice combo:

Damn right, the Firefly is great. Reminds me that I need new batteries for mine!

I have a zytel ladybug and a stainless jester...I like the ladybug better just for weight sake. I think cutting ability is the same. Get her a sweet pink or red ladybug.....She'll love you for it.
Last Valentines day I got my wife a zytel harpy...for defense. I instructed her not to show the knife until used, then, quickly go for the eyes/neck/face. She wasn't thrilled then, but, after nearly a year clipped to her purse; she loves it! She refrences it often. I'm thinking of giving her the "Civilian" I just got, I don't like it, and it would suit her needs better. (She's an Emergency Room RN at a hospital in a fairly dangerous city. I worry about her getting to her car. (She also carries an ASP "key-defender" in bright pink and loves that as well)).

"knives are great, but, there's nothing like a shot of pepper spray to the face to stop a fight."

Depends what you want to use it for. I would think that on a keychain, it doesn't make much of a difference. The ladybug is better for puncturing things and cleaning your fingernails, but the Jester deffinately has a better blade if you want to do bigger jobs.

They are both excellent knives - I rotate both (as well as the Ladybug II). Like others have said, the overall ergos on the Jester are better, but I think the blade shape on the Ladybug is more useful for a knife of this size.

Their cutting ability is underrated - notwithstanding handle size, the cutting edge of these small spydies pretty much matches the Dragonfly, Navigator, Meerkat, etc.

Enjoy!

Joe

My 2 cents... The Jester just seems like a more versatile design to me.
