Which of these knives would be better for a small survival knife?
A SOG seal pup, Cold Steel SRK, or a Swamp Rat Howling rat.

In reverse order, I would recommend firstthe Swamp Rat, next the Cold Steel, and then the SOG.

Swamp Rat and Cold Steel both give you a strong blade, but the Swamp Rat slices better and the handle is immensely superior.

What Ed said.

The HR has the best steel of the three and its handle ergonomics are sound. And SR's warranty is the best in the business.

Most SOGs are overpriced for the steel and handle materials they use.

What QS said - I don't have the HR but I've got a Camp Tramp & can attest to the superior handle. Also have an SRK which I like very much. Have never been impressed with the fact that SOG is so expensive yet uses relatively cheap stainless steel.

I can't say for the other 2, but a Howling Rat was my first knife from SRKW almost 3 years ago and is still my favorite. Just such a handy blade shape and size. My wife loves it (the knife) in the kitchen, a plus if you're married. LOL

If this is the size you're looking for, get it, you won't regret it.

I've seen the howling rat on their website but you cant see it very good.
Can someone show me some pics of their howling rat.

Do a search on the Rat Chat area of the Swamp Rat site. There are lots of pictures of Rats in action.

Also, check out the Survival forum with the thread 'Howling Fire' for a HR doing fire starter duties. Great pics.
