Which is better?

As far as classic folding knives, which is better? Buck folding hunter model 110 or the Schrade Uncle Henry Bear Paw, Lb7. I own both and think they are about equal.

Depends what you mean by better. I think the Buck is a little more refined, nicely polished and rounded bolsters, better fit and finish than I have seen on my Schrades and others I have handled.

As far as being solid and useful? Both excellent users. I dont feel short-changed carrying either one.

I have both also but I'd have to side with the Schrade being better. My Buck has just a tad bit of movement (vertical) when locked open. It has always had some movement that way since new.

The LB-7 on the other hand is rock solid. The LB-7 is just a tad bigger overall also. I don't know why but the LB-7 seems to be better at keeping an edge and easier to sharpen to me than the Buck also. Both of mine are older ones. I'd have to say the Schrade sheath is better too. At least on mine. It is nearly twice the thickness of the Buck leather.

Welcome.

IMHO both are great knives, the original design is by Buck and has been copied by many, some are very good such as Schrade and the old Puma, I haven't seen the one by Camillus but it's probably similar.

I had a Buck 112 for about 10 years, great knife in 440C steel, my Schrade is from 1978 in 440A steel, newer ones both Buck and Schrade are 420HC steel.

Buck has made the special 110 in better steels and fancy handle materials, their "Custom Shop" seems to be closed at the moment but hopefully will reopen soon, you may want to check at Buck's site:

Cabela's has S30V Bucks. I bought a 110 and love it. I would have prefered an uncoated blade, but I can live with it.

I vote Buck, especially now. If your Buck goes sour, they will gladly replace or repair your knife. You buy a real Schrade on eBay, it's a late-model POS, and you're stuck with it.

Overall, I'd say that the average Buck quality is higher than average Schrade quality anyway. I've always gotten a consistant product from Buck, while Schrade-Imperial-UH-OT knives are hit-or-miss.

Good Luck,
Bob

Wow, great responses. I had no idea so many owned these knives. Just before Schrade went out of business, I bought a brand new Uncle Henry LB7, and just last week I finally broke down and went with a Buck 110. I really like the Buck, solid and easy to handle, and the blade opens easier and has more snap to it. But.....as far as folding knives with brass bolsters and a clip blade, The Uncle Henry Bear Paw LB7 is the big dog on the block. However, both are equal in quality and toughness, I think.

Thanks for the feedback.

I too own both and most subjectively I will admit I prefer the Schrade....but my Buck 110 performs well also.

Personally, i love my schrade over the buck i used to have.

When i bought my first set of schrade pocket knives, they came with a warranty that said something like, free replacement or repair for life, even if lost, yes, lost too it said.

My buck certanly did not have this endorsement.
(I may still have original box schrades came in, i should find it.)
