Sorry for this easy question.....but which is bigger
BA TAC or SJ TAC

Thanks in advance and
MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Ask and you shall recieve....

if you were to have only one for camp or more importantly combat which one and why.
I'm looking to pick up a knife for a friend who is headed out next year.

Either knife would serve one extraordinarily well, but I would favor the BATAC at this time, mainly because you will have a much easier time finding one, when compared to finding a SJTAC.

I personally feel the BATAC is a more well-rounded and useful knife. I do love the SJTAC, but the BATAC is all user at every level for me.

BATAC - more compact and to me more functional.

And like others said - currently many choices in handels and blade coatings/or SE - easier to find and great prices to be had!

Having the choice myself, I lean towards the BATAC. It is just a little more user friendly size. In all honesty, I carried a ST-Ripper, a SJTAC Variant and a Dumpster mutt on my last deployment (not all at once). Of those, the Dumpster Mutt was the best size for what I was doing. Now to be completely honest... I used the folding knife in my pocket 95% of the time.

I carry a fixed blade on my kit for a tool, and for my last line of defense. If I am going down in a blaze of glory I can picture no bettter exit scene than me slashing away with a ST-Ripper.

If you are buying a fixed blade for a soldier, buy him one that is a comfortable size for him (or her). I vote BATAC, but if your friend is XXLarge, the SJTAC may be a better fit. Also, personnal taste plays a huge role.

Good luck finding the right knife and thanks for putting a Busse in Harm's Way!

Right on....all of your comments are great.
WINMAGFROG my friend is average build. So I think the BATAC will win this one. By the way my friend is going into harms way I just want him to have the BEST tools for this RIGHT FIGHT.

This should give some sense of scale. I think the BATAC is a better choice for all-around utility.

I gotta buck the trend here and say go for the SJTAC. I finally took mine out yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how well it chops using a three finger grip. In an emergency survival situation it would do a lot better than the BATAC and at .18 it slices like a dream. I also like the blade shape better than the BATAC.

Me... I'd go with the BATAC.

Here's a pic of a Mole Jack (top and same as the SJTAC) and a CG BATAC

My favorite... the BATAC LE. :D

SJT definitely. It has a much nicer handle to blade ratio. I don't feel that an SJT is so big as to attract too much attention.

The SJTAC is bigger.

For overall use, I'd vote for the SJTAC.

A SJTAC and a FBM can take care of 100% of your knife needs.

One of the things that just really floats my boat about the SJTAC, at least with the CG, the only one I have, is the balance point. Whenever I relax my grip the knife just seems to HOVER in my hand and the grip can be manipulated comfortably without fear of dropping or losing control of it. I've never felt so connected to a knife of this size. :D The more I handle it the more I love this knife. Thank god its made of INFI so it will be around long after I am. :D:D:D
