This morning my wife gifted me a Case/Bose wharncliffe trapper. I've been coon fingerin' it ever since. This knife has got me thinking. Tony Bose's impact on this segment of the knife community for the past couple of decades has been immeasurable. His work with Case has put his designs in untold numbers of pockets and his generosity has helped dozens of would be cutlers hone their craft. When you hear certain terms -- BackPocket, Lanny's, Zulu -- you immediately think of Tony. But which of his many designs do you associate most with the man?

It's an impossible choice, so I'll go with Tony's own personal favorite.

The wharncliffe trapper is my favorite knife. I usually carry a BackPocket knife in my back pocket of course and a Case CV swayback jack in my watch or shirt pocket. You can't carry too many knives.

The lockback whittler is also iconic. Not a lot of them around. I carry a backpocket and a "slim" swayback.

I knew I forgot something. I agree, but the problem as you already noted is the relatively low exposure. It's a numbers game with something like this.

The Lanny's Clip is the pattern that mostly makes me think of Tony. The story I read about Tony making it for his friend named Lanny just sticks in my head.
Going with the Lanny's Clip also. Ever since learning of their existence, it's been my grail.

Not only is it a T. Bose original, but it looks to have been shared throughout the knife making industry, traditional AND modern. It is my understanding that Tony never hesitated sharing his designs...another incredible gesture by the legend.

I have several of his CASE collaboration patterns but they are all safe queens but my stag dogleg jack. That sees pocket time. Not his invention, but certainly his distinctive interpretation.

The one that first comes to mind for me is Tony's take on the Remington Bullet Trapper. I'm sure many of his other patterns are more closely associated with him, but that's one that has always stood out to me.

I'd also go with the Lanny's Clip, I guess it's a personal thing, and everyone will have their own opinion :)

Question:
Were the Case-Bose knives you are referring to, new Case patterns, or are you including the collaboration knives using an existing Case pattern?

This thread needs pictures!
I'll volunteer 😆

I'm asking about which design comes to mind when you think about Tony Bose. Doesn't matter if it's regular Case lineup, annual collaborations, or a Wilfred Works custom crafted by the man himself.
