For years, I have been a closet yo-yo enthusiast.

Now, it's fairly safe to emerge. People say it's for kids. Well, I am still a kid as far as this game is concerned.

I love yo-yos. I have a small collection of this kid/adult toy.

Will all the yo-yo champs and yo-yo lovers please stand up and take a bow?

:D

Oh I am most definately a Yoyo enthusiast! And as for the best yoyos? Duncan Freehand 1 and 2, Spintastic Eclipse, Yoyojam Night Moves and the Matrix when it comes out! I own 2 Freehand 1 and also a Freehand 2, Love em both! Glad to see i'm not the only one on this board who likes yoyos!! See yah.

I'm not really a YoYo collector, but I do have a custom made aluminum YoYo that a friend of mine made me at his machine shop. I need to clean it up, but here it is.

I've always liked Tom Kuhn's, and am still proud of my tortoise shell sb2. I've been mostly out of yo-yo's for years though, and I'm sure there are some very nice new ones out. The SuperYo Renegades are quite nice for the $20 or so they cost, vs the $100 I think I paid for my sb2 back when.

I'm certainly no yo-yo champ, but I still like twirling em around now and then.

My favorite bearing yo-yos are the Duncan Freehand and the Proyo Crow'd Fusion. It's too bad more Crow'd Fusions weren't made. They looked great, and played even better. I'm still trying to warm up to the Freehand2, but think I prefer the original Freehand. Steve Brown created a masterpiece with that one.

For wooden axle yo-yos, the Tom Kuhn No-Jive is my favorite. I especially like the ones he made for before What's Next Mfg starting producing them. Tom's handmade yo-yos were crafted with such precision, they're a delight to play with. The Spintastics Technic is darned good for a plastic bodied yo-yo.

Hehehe. I think I've got more yo-yos than I do knives!!! Actually, I'm sure I have more yo-yos. Probably around 1200 or 1300 in my collection.

Here's a pic of me at the height of my yo-yo obsession. Many people in the online yo-yo community know me as Scarecrow. Now if we can get Dave Brunner to pitch in on this thread. The man is a VERY good yo-yo player.

Oh yah. Shameless plug for my yo-yo website - Yo-Yo Craft

Yep. Yo-yos are an addiction. I even do artwork for yo-yos. Here's my latest design, manufactured with Tom Kuhn's approval. He agreed to it, as long as he was sent some for the customers at his dentist's office.

Here's another I did awhile back.

I remember a few years back the age of yo-yos were a "fad" with the kids. "Ya I'm down with that yo-yo hip hop". I said to myself. I think alot of interest were around a yo-yo called the Silver Bullet. It was about $120 I think

Buzzbait ~ Dude! You have the most AWESOME collection of yo-yos! Spent some time with the owners of Pro-Yo in the fall of 2000 at Tucson, Arizona.. One of the most AWESOME yo-yos I have ever played was the ProYo cold fusion! Two years ago, we had a yo-yo craze here in Malaysia.. I visited the States to catch a glimpse of the World ProYo championships and had the honour to meet and purchase some exotic yo-yos from John Higby.. Had a couple of beers with him and exchanged some trick notes.. Cool guy! :D

Hey Buzz, your talents are amazing. Those yo-yos are beautiful.
Remind me to ask you to teach me a few tricks.

Samo - I probably bumped into you a few times at the 2000 ProYo Worlds. I was there, and spent most of my time hanging out with Tom VDE, Hans, Kate and Higby. Tom (Hans father) and I are still good friends. He drove up from Arizona to see me a few weeks ago, on his way through to visit Higby in Boston. We had a great time.

Hehehe. Here's a pic of the Cold Fusion that Tom made up for me a couple years ago.

Buzzbait,on your yo-yo site you show how to tie-dye yo-yo strings. Have you dyed other types of material like paracord?I was thinking camoflage paracord would make some pretty cool lanyards.I imagine this could be done. What do you think the best way to dye this material(paracord) would be?I have to tell you I have gotten alot of usefull info off your site and I have just begun to read it Thanks,RB

There are a couple of problems with that. If I'm not mistaken, paracord uses synthetic fibers, not cotton. Synthetic fibers generally do not color easily using dyes. The color comes out very light and muted. I've tried dying synthetic based yo-yo strings, and have not had good results. Also, you'd have to find white paracord. Colored or black paracord would be almost impossible to dye a different color.

Now if we were talking thin cotton rope, sort of like a triple thick yo-yo string, that would be a piece of cake. There are manufacturers who make this stuff, but you have to buy it in incedibly large volumes. It's cost prohibitive for the average person.

Hmmmmm.. Buzz, come to think of it, I did came across someone of your description at the Mesa Citrus fest where the ProYo 2000 worlds were held. One of our boys, Paul had won the freestyle competition with his moves. You must have been that dude in a denim top who had a ProYo that came in a hip holster on his hip.. I recall you showing some of your collection in a special case to some of the other dudes at the fair grounds.. :D
Just a day after the fest, I headed off to Colorado and visited Spyderco. Then I took off to New York to attend the NY Custom Knife Show.. Spent a week there before I head back to Malaysia.. Man, you have an awesome website! I had a great time with Hans VDE, Kate and the ProYo crew in Tucson.. It was AWESOME! :D

I have pulled the strings out from inside of paracord and made lanyards with the flat paracord and to tell you the truth they come out tighter and nicer anyway.I am going to look for some thicker cotten cord and give the camo a try. GOLOK, I apoligize for getting off topic. Thanks,RB
