Howdy,

Just received my 20 inch AK today! Haven't had time to test it out yet, but I'll get back to that soon enough. :D

I would like to know which kami that made it -- here's a scan of the signature:

Hi Tristan, welcome. That mark in your pic, is the HI signature. Look near the "handle", on the blade there should be another mark.

OK...

Well, I can't find any other engraving. I bought it 2nd-hand, and it might be a couple of years old -- perhaps they weren't signed earlier?

Sorry to but in folks - I have a Y. I. B. on the base of my BAS khuk, who made it?

Thanks

Ross

Bowser, that 'I' is probably an exclamation mark (!). We called him the 'bang' kami. Don't know if we ever knew his real name. Maybe someone else remembers.

The 'Bang' kami? is that good or bad? It is certainly a very well made piece (although I dont have any other HI models to compare it to). Just to satisfy my curiosity I would love to know this guy's real name! Anyone remember?

Thanks

Ross

some kamis did littlemore than add the HI logo. then they added their makers mark to this, usually a symbol like the cross, sun rising, or butter lamp. then, they began to add the english alphabet initials as well(which I do not like).

The older villager models may be marked with the devengari characters for BG- Bir Gorkha, instead of the HI characters.

'Bang' is computer (and perhaps other) shorthand for 'exclamation mark'. No judgement involved.

Ross,
According to Uncle in a recent post the kamis name is Yadep Bahadur. Not a bad kami either. Have a few khuks by him and they are good quality. Enjoy yours!

Thanks for the replies folks (I wasnt aware that 'bang' was another term for a !)

Regards

Ross

His name is Yadep Bahadur. The man is really skilled. [Note that the preceding statement is a candidate for the Understatment of the Month award.]
