After raving about it for a long time, I might just (FINALLY,
wink.gif
Sing and Axel sigh and look at each other helplessly) get a KFF, there is a bargain I am scoping out. I am a fan of the bolstered satin version but the one on sale is a bead blasted #1. But the deal seems too good to pass up.

***BTW does the KFF come with a sheath and not a clip?? .. anyways..

The kicker is.. I have never seen a bead blasted blade before :embarassed: .. yeah I could go ot the mall to check one out but well.. yeah...

It's a pretty stupid post but just wanted to ask. THanks

so here it is..

"Oh dear radio DJ, I have love troubles. SHould I get a KFF bead blasted at a good price or just go for my true love the bolstered #2" Sincerely, SniperBOY.

I'd say scoop it up before someone else does. You can always buy your dream KFF later when you have more money, for now, this is a great deal.

My $0.02,
Mitch

Sniper..
The KFF has a pocket clip and comes with a nylon sheath..
It is an Incredible Knife and a True Combat Folder..
It is one of my absolute favorites..
Get one..

I am still awaitng word from the seller of the great deal.. as well as word from a dealer with a good deal on #2 as well. I might just get that #2.. ooohh man.. better be happy on the first strike. The discount on the #2 is only half as good as the #1 though.

Sniperboy,

I have a distinct feeling that ANY KFF you get will make you an insanely happy man, and I promise you that not only will you carry the KFF everyday, but you will also sleep with it!! You will open and close it constantly, and you will practice drawing it from your pocket/sheath at least ONCE an hour!! You will cut wet newspapers, cardboard tubes, and chunks of cheap meat. You will buy a training version from Bob Burgee at www.trainingblades.com and practice on your poor unsuspecting wife. And THEN...you will want more and more KFF's. You'll want the all titanium, the fancy one with the ivory handle and damascus blade and bolsters, the CRKT one, the Mini Kasper, the Mini with the impala handle, the...AARRGGHHH!!!
eek.gif

Ralf,

I want your KFF!! I need your KFF! I will trade you my children for it! Please think about it...they can mow your lawn, wash your dishes, do your laundry...maybe you're interested in my pregnant wife?? She makes really good mexican food...

MrG, you are the man! I can even imagine you saying that whole passage with the Evangelical "Brother Mike" voice on sunday morning TV. Along with the up and down changing tone. Hey I mean if you put it that way what can go wrong.

BTW I pity your wife

and I pity YOU if your wife ever reads threads here

Thanks for the support - is what I need to appease my conscience and bank account. Sing, Go get a CRKT for a trainer.. i think that might be best since it is VERY low cost and is a functional folder too so you can practice draws. I am planning to do the same. The tip is in question though, eventhough you blunt it it is still thin and dangerous.

I am not familiar with intense knife training if you can still control your stabs at the heat of the moment. A friend of mine, 2sharp makes slim kydex fittings for his fixed blades. will probably not work for folders though.

If you grind one down share with us your sunday afternoon project results.

SIgh.. We'll see which one I get. Might go for a #2 since I know I will eventually getr one anyways.

damn I'm so fickle. Eversince I was a kid.

Nice blades guys. No friction tape on those pocket clips and on the top of the opposite scales? Tsk, tsk.

You can' t go wrong with the KFF. When I can carry only a knife when going about my daily routine, it' s a Polkowski fix blade for sure. If a folder only, then at least one of them is my KFF. A real serious blade.

Concerning the CRKT version: the area where the thumb rests in the saber grip is planted with a backup safety. It is a cylindrical type stud set up sideways facing the thumb. Sort of like the way the secondary lock of the Gerber Applegate Combat (sign) folder works. I don' t know how, but it' s gotta go as it really defeats the purpose of the curved and slotted portions of the blade/ liner/ scales! Get those wheels turning guys.

I got a used "standard" KFF, micarta scales, beadblast, no bolsters. A really great, great knife. I loved it so much that I just had to have the all-titanium KFF. Compared to the micarta model the titanium one is a work of art. If possible an even more fantastic knife than the original. Two thumbs up, way up on any KFF. You can't go wrong.

Hi MrG!

Thanks for the offers, but I think I'll keep the knife. This is just because I already have a pregnant wife. It's gonna be a girl. Due end of March. But that Mexican food making IS tempting

Congratulations MrG and Ralf ^_^. Are you guys considering a rubber KFF as a teether?

I finally founda great deal on the #2. I hope the deal works out and the knife is also in good shape. 1 month carried around the house never cut anything and only used for one man showdown draws in front of the mirror.. seems too good.

the days of you guys hearing me whine about not having a KFF are almost over.. sigh.. well I am sure MrG will remind me what I'm missing in the future when he gets a fancy kff

Ralf, that is one nice looking blade. Very different. Did you have Pat make the tanto blade and thumb disk especially for you or is it a version that he has made before?

sniperboy, good luck in you quest. My first KFF had a satin blade with all micarta scales. After communicating with Bob Kasper, he convinced me of the merits of the bead blasted finish for a defensive knife. I sent it back to Pat who bead blasted it for me.

The Ti KFFs look nice, but I would imagine the scales will pick up scratches rather easily over time. The micarta scales are very durable and don't scratch with normal use.

Axel

I seem to have gathered all the KFF experts all in one thread.. what a special treat.

I am very proud to say that I got a great deal on a Kasper model #2 with a satin blade and bolsters. I must admit that I have not seen a bead blasted finish yet but will soon I guess when I get my Kasper neck knife. NO more whining about not haing a KFF for me
smile.gif

I know I am going to regret it but, Axel, what exactly are the advantages of a bead blasted blade over a satin finsh in terms of fighitng applications??

I'm just guessing, but I would say that the beadblasted blade would be prefered by Mr. Kasper over a satin one because its non-reflective, don't want to advertize if you can help it! As for the titanium handles, you can get those bead-blasted as well, makes for a very durable handle, much like a Sebenza's. I've carried mine for a while and have had no problems with scratches. Of course you could always return it to Crawford to have it "re-blasted" if you wanted to remove any scratches.

I saw the safety on the CRKT version of the KFF and I have this thought. I believe if the cylindrical button can be removed and the metal folded over 90 degrees it could work better. It would then lie flush. Some serrations could be added for better purchase. It looks like the lever slides forward and back.

I am going to have to get one. You can't beat it for the price.

sniperboy, Hoss pretty much summed up the advantage of the bead blasted blade for defensive use.

sing, did the LH tanto KFF come with the thumb disk? I didn't realize that Pat would put a thumb disk on a KFF. I don't have any folders with thumb disks, but I have heard that some prefer them to studs. Nice Crawford knives on AZCK. Some are so nice that I'd be afraid to use them.

Hey Damon, where did you manage to handle the CRKT KFF? Were you at another show? Does the safety activate like on the Gerber Covert? That is, do you need to go to the saber grip to activate it?

I'm going to be sending my three KFFs to Checker Marx to have gun checkering applied to the micarta handles. It should improve the grip for more secure openings.

Axel

Axel,

I have the Year 2000 CRKT catalog and there is a close up photo of the safety. I haven't handled one yet, but it looks exactly like the custom and the price is right.
