Im planning to get my second Blur since i love the one i have right now so much. I currently have the Blur with silver twill g10 and 440A and want to get another one. I'm deciding between the S30V Blur, the OD CPM 154 Blur, or the Desert Sand Blur with a 13C26 black blade. I really need help deciding. How is the stonewash finish on the S30V version and is the CPM154 version the normal kershaw bead blasted finish?

I will recommend:
-ZDP-189 composite blade (This steel is excellent, holds a great edge)

there is also S30V, CPM154, S60V, and there maybe more.

To tell you the truth i don't like composite blades for some reason. It just doesn't do it for me.

Thats a really hard question to answer, but its probably because I tend to like normal blades with just 1 type of steel. I often don't go for damascus and layered steels like san mai. Theres nothing wrong with them but i just perfer blades with 1 steel type.

I have the model with the SG2 blade I like it the best of my three Blurs

I carry a S30V Blur off and on and really like it. The stonewash finish is one of it's best features in my opinion.

I agree, I love my ZDP Blur.
Next choices would be-
S60V
S30V
CPM154

But you "gotta" try the ZDP:)
You may not like it now,but after trying it, let us know your thoughts.
"IF" you decide you do not like it (I can not imagine), it will be easy to sell:)

Please feel welcome to continue the knife discussion. Other posts turned to a sales discussion and have been moved offline.

I truly feel that if Kershaw offered them as framelocks, sales would go up exponentially. The lock type is the only thing that stopped me from getting it many years ago.

Another vote for zdp! Love that stonewash composite blade.

Also agree that they should kick out a framelock version.... Give us a high end ti handled framelock blur w/ zdp or s30v blade and I think it could compete with the very best out there. I love the design.

If you don't like the (otherwise excellent ) CB ZDP Blur, I recommend the CPM154 (OD or orange) or the S30V version.
Both has great blade steel, ideal for EDC.

There are arguments that could be made for all versions but If I was beginning with my first it would be the CPM 154, S30 and 13C/14C tied next depending on the likes and dislikes and uses of the buyer.

Don't hesitate to buy a composite blade due to strength or longevity reasons.

The others are excellent ( SG2, ZDP, S60V) but are getting harder to find. If you can, sure! Get it.

I've not got every model, but I do have every steel. I could get by with any of them and be happy. If you have a favorite steel, get that. Rest knowing that Kai/Kershaws heat treat will be first rate.

Idaho, they use the powder version of 154cm called CPM 154. It's very good stuff and, yes, an improvement over the ingot version, which is still good, and itself sort of a reference standard.

Yes, it's very different from S60V ( 440V old name). S60V was sort of replaced by S90V, which puts it as one of the first super premium steels.

You would likely get a better explanation of the differences by reading something like This from Joe Talmadge: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=368828

My S30V Blur came after years of carrying a by then very beat up 400A steel red Blur. Sadly, I had by then discovered framelocks - and their greater security was to be appreciated. The S30V Blur has never been as razor sharp as the base steel Blur, but it keeps it's utility-sharp edge quite well. I think 400A dulls going across one sheet of printer paper! S30V is my favorite all around blade steel, although some tool steels, like A2, D2, & M4 are better, in some regards, S30V is just a great knife blade choice.

My favorite Kershaw - long ago replacing the Blur - is the JYDII - and specifically, the SG-2/Ti framelock , which I found a NIB version at a store nearing two years ago - after it was canned - followed by a 'blem' from an advertiser here. The CB version - a linerlock with a heftier liner than the Blur - is, like other JYDII's, flipper deployed instead of spring powered a la the Blur. It's composite blade edge is CPM D2 - a great blade material. It - the CB variant - sells for less than an S30V Blur, which is harder to find, too (The JYDII in CB is a catalog item.). Good luck!
