Hi Folks!
Just wondering; do any members have experience with BOTH the cqc-7k and cqc-8k?

Really having a hard time deciding which one to purchase. I'm mostly interested in lock-up (anything short of anvil-like is frowned upon) because of the liner vs frame locks that these employ.

Also, the ergos of both (g-10/g-10 versus g-10/SS)

Thanks in advance!

I do.

I purchased both of them, and eventually sold off the 7k and gifted the 8k.

My thoughts:

The 7k is aesthetically more pleasing, because of the satin/stone-wash combination finish on the tanto blade. The knife locked up solidly, but I won't lie, from the factory, the lockup was like 70%. The 8k seemed like it was a sturdier knife, being that it was heavier feeling. I would say that the chisel grind on the 8k was neat, and it seemed closer to a budget Emerson, whereas the 7k was more of a "budget knife with Emerson-like features", if that makes any sense.

If I had to do it over, I'd just buy the 8k and call it a day.

Kevin, I'd forgotten that I took a shot of them both when I first got them. Have a look:

There are more than two.

I got to play with them at the local knife shop the other day and the '6K seemed the most versatile to me.

The cheap plastic washers really made the pivot sluggish.

I have owned both and definitely preferred the 7K, I gifted the 8K to a friend. I just wasn't a fan of the chisel grind. Both locked up super solidly and were shockingly smooth after break in, cleaning, and lubing. They flick open like they're on bearings.

Edit: I believe they both have teflon washers. It's worth noting that while disassembly for cleaning and lubing is necessary to make these knives great, you need to be very careful when doing so. The screws are made of very cheap steel and will strip very easily.

7k by far IMO. Wasn't that impressed with the 8k, but the 7k was carried a lot more before I gifted it to a friend.

Yext, does the cqc 8k have Teflon washers?

AFAIK they are, as amg137 said you need to be careful undoing the screws, some of the screws looked like they had loctite on them and I almost stripped two removing them.

Ordered the 8k from flea-bay, should be here in a week! Can't wait! Looking forward to trying out the "wrong side" chisel grind (I'm left handed, so it should suit me just fine).
Thanks to all that offered their input!

8K arrived this evening! Little stiff right now, but still flick/wave-able. Shaving sharp out of the box. Was pleased to see that they include a spare trio of pocket clip screws (even though the 8K uses the same length screws for left and right hand mounting). Swapped the clip with no worry of stripping screw heads.....having fun breaking it in....gettin smoother all the time.

Good to hear you're enjoying it. Make sure you disassemble it for cleaning/lubing after a couple weeks. Those teflon washers become unbelievably smooth once you clear out the metal and coating bits that wear off during break in.
