Which Kershaw

I am expecting delivery today on a Spyderco Persistence. To my eye, the 2.75 inch blade to 3.25 seems about right for me and general office and home use and to carry every day. Want something to be able to switch up with, so something will be different if I get a Kershaw. Kershawguy has some attractive pricing on a Needswork, a Scallion all black blem, and a Blackout. All around $30 and less. A Shallot is a bit on the bigger side I think. I am still scouring for a great deal on a Mini Griptilian, so which of these do you think might be lightweight to carry but yet be different from the Persistence somehow to keep it intersting.

I would go with the mini Grip as well, if you can get a good deal on one.
But, since I do have them all, I guess I would get the Scallion from KershawGuy as well. :D:thumbup:

They are all very similar in function, but very different designs. The Scallion will be the smallest and the SpeedSafe is a fun feature. The mini Grip will probably be the lightest and you can't beat the Axis lock. Add in the Persistence and you have three very different knives; all of which are great for EDC.

If you are set on a Kershaw the RAM and OD-1 are my favorites under 50 bucks. I have had a blackout and scallion and didn't really like them and have no experience with the needs work. The 2 I mentioned are excellent knives at any price.

Kershaw Skyline would be my choice for that pricepoint. It is still my favorite EDC knife especially for work (office environment). Not as threatening as my Spyderco Endura 4 G-10, Benchmade 710 D2 or Zero Tolerance ZT0300 that I carry after work and during the weekends.

I would also recommend the Kershaw Leek. To me, it is a quintessential Kershaw.

Kershaw Zing is the way to go. You can check them out at most Walmarts and compare them to a few other Kershaws that appear to fit your criteria.

You mentioned the "Needs Work" as one on your list.
Some people think it's UGLY, but I like it. A very functional, Assisited Opening, Wharncliffe knife. I have the original handle, but would prefer the G-10, which I believe is just a bit more.
I find the Wharncliffe shape ideal for cutting things along a straight edge. (eg: trimming photos)
The LEEK is also very functional, but you have an office edc covered with your Spyderco Persistance. Plus, the Leek models that I like are more than your $30 range.

I have a bunch of Scallions. They are great in my book. My favorite scallion is a Frankenscallion that I swapped the black blade(and liner) from one of the Wal-mart versions (all black with 3 holes in the blade & the Kershaw logo across the handles) and an Olive handled version. The black and olive look great and it's just big enough to handle most jobs.

I keep mine very sharp but it takes some work to keep it that way. I wish the steel was a bit better.

Tried the needs work and it wasn't to my taste.

I got a Needs Work 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I LOVE it. It's practically ergonomically perfect. A little bit beefy, but in a good way. The clip is even placed so that it barely touches your hand when you grip the knife (it won't dig into your hand.) My only complaint about the grip is the jimping on the thumb ramp. But actually, the handle is so perfectly shaped that it doesn't matter at all. Really.

The only other thing I don't like is the clip. It is a bit hard to get onto the pocket. But other than that, it's a REALLY high-value, tough knife.

I'm not a fan of the Scallion and Chive series.

One other recommendation I have is the Junkyard Dog (the first one with the stainless handle.) It's a nice, small knife with a good blade shape. The flipper is manual action. The clip is shaped strangely and digs into the hand a little bit, but it goes on and off the pocket easily. The handle is also pretty ergonomic (almost like the Needs Work, but a bit less beefy and missing a finger groove.) I got it for $25, and I like it a lot.

I just picked up that same Scallion from Kershawguy a couple weeks ago and I would recommend it. It's the same version that clw3 said was from walmart, and its a neat looking blade with the three holes and kershaw lettering on the handle. I'm currently edc-ing but it hasn't done a whole lot of work (I work at a deli, hah). It came scary sharp for a blem knife though! The speedsafe is way fun to play with, but I almost dropped the knife on my foot the first time I opened it - never used an assisted opener before. Kershawguy is great to deal with and fast to ship.

Get a Kershaw 1900ET External Toggle. Cool, secure, gizmo-type lock/opening/closing system; built-in carabiner/bottle opener; deep carry pocketclip for when you're not wanting to show the world your new gizmo; hollow ground blade for excellent slicing. I just got a red 1900ET from Kershawguy and am very pleased with it.

I really like kershaws. They are the only modern knife maker I like. I have several that I just love. You mentioned the Needs Work. I do not have one, but it is on my list to get. Definately get the one with the G10 handle. I have a Scallion and love it. It is the Kershaw I carry and use the most. Not sure why. But it seems to be the one I grab. And it is one of Kershawguy's $22.00 blem. I could find nothing wrong with it. Which is like all the others I have bought from him. When funds improve, I am going to get another one or two just to have backups. :-)

I would suggest getting the Scallion first. Then go for the Needs Work. That is my $.02. But it may not be worth even that much.

I'd suggest a Blur. 3 3/8ths blade length, AO, and you can get a ZDP Composite blade from kershawguy for $65. A bunch of knife for the money.

1670BRNZDP Composite blade sterile ZDP189 blade ( no writing) blems $65

This was posted while I typed mine. The Blur is my second favorite Kershaw. And I have one of theComposite blade mentioned above. Very nice knife and is very sharp and holds it very well.

I'd agree with this man. The skyling is very light, almost weightless in the pocket.

I would say A Kershaw Skyline. It's my go to EDC. It has a decent sized blade and is very light! Great price too at around $30.

The Needs Work in G10 is one of my favorite EDCs. The funky looks put me off at first, but after carrying it and using it I became a fan. The Random Leek is another good EDC, I've used it for everything from helping set hinges in a cabinet to dry wall demolition and it preforms like a champ.

+1 for the Skyline. I'll be honest and say I wasn't a big fan of how it looked until I actually had one in hand.

I've also had my eye on the Chill. If I recall correctly, it has a blade length as long as the Skyline, but the closed length is half an inch shorter.

Check out the Zing. I love the orange handle and almost wharncliffe blade shape. The striations are pretty sweet too.

I've been checking out the Kershaw Blitz and it looks like it'd make a good EDC. For around 25$ it also fits into my limited knife purchasing budget right now. I was also planning on buying a persistance. As they're both budget minded knives maybe I'll get both.
