which key-ring tool?

i took a look at my key ring the other day and realised that the only thing on it was a key- boring! So i've made it my mission to liven it up with some useful bits and pieces, and i've come to the conclusion that a miniature multi-tool is a must-have. So far i've been looking at the SOG crossgrip and crosscut, the Leatherman micra and the Sebertech m4 and i was wondering if anyone could offer opinions on the above or perhaps alternative suggestions? any input much appreciated :)

As far as having "fun factor", I would go with the Swiss-Tech. It is much like the Seber Tool, but I bought the ST first. The Mariner model is nice, in that it is coated to resist corrosion, has a lanyard hole built in, and the shears are serrated to help cut fishing line. The link is below. Good luck in your search!

I carry the following with my keys:
-Pelican L1 LED light
-Leatherman Micra
-Fox mini plastic whistle
-Paracord lanyard (a few feet tied in a noose)

I _love_ my Micra. Use it a lot more than any of my knives.

I'm ordering 13 more, along with kydex sheaths & Photon II's to give as Xmas presents.

I have the Swiss-Tech Utili-Key in my key ring at all times. It has come in handy many times, and it just looks like another key, but has 2 screw drivers, a Phillips driver , serrated blade and bottle cap opener all in one.

The Utilikey is the way to go if you don't want to clutter up your keychain. I have used mine more times than I thought I ever would. Of course my glasses are loose all the time, so the mini-screwdriver tip comes in handy. I've also given them out as gifts.

Won´t those Micra/Crosscut-style tools open in the pocket?

The full-size Leatherman Wave gets pretty loose after a while. If the keychain-tools are the same, I feel it would be dangerous carrying them in the pocket, even if the scissors are rather small.

Any experiences here?

how about a VIC Classic on the chain and the small tool in your pocket. My father in law carries his micra in pocket, no accidental openings.

I don't know about the Crosscut, but the scissors on the Micra are spring loaded, so when you fold it up it snaps shut.

Micra is built alot like a slip-joint folder :)
there are two sets of springs in the handles one
keeps the Micra iether open, or closed (It closes with a SNAP)
the other set springs the scissors open.

The springs that keep the Micra open, or closed are only in
use when your opening or closeing it, It's hard for me to believe
they could every get so worn to not keep it closed.

Especial if you keep it oiled and clean, You would have to get
both sides open for the scissors to cut.

Hey Guys....

Here a pic albeit a pretty darn lousy one of some keytag toys...

Use your tools like they were intended to be used,,not with a Ball of keys attached to them..

Thanks for the replies, all very helpful :) i've decided that choosing between the above suggestions may be too difficult, so i'm goin to get as many as my wallet will allow! :D (see which best suits my needs for edc). Appreciate the advice, and the scans- nice.

Damn you Ron Anderson! I didn't know there was a mini verison of the SOG tool out there! Must have, must have......Please, in the future, don't hold back those shameless plugs!:D

Please tell me that you all will be making a mini plier tool in the future......the scissors are nice but a plier is where it's at!

Peter Atwood..... i believe SOG has a product named the 'Crossgrip' a version of the Crosscut with mini-pliars instead of scissors. Also it's nice to see a company stand behind their product- i agree, keep those shamless plugs comin, Ron Anderson. :)
