Which Keyring SD for wife?

Alright guys,(and gals) my wife wants something better than a SAK Classic on her key ring for self defense, I gave her a large SOG Executive, but she doesn't like the squared up leather covering, so now she's using a Cold Steel Medium Voyager.

What would provide her with the most secure, foolproof, utility SD keyring blade.

Remember it can't be too big or heavy, under 4" closed with a blade under 3", let your financial minds wander, let's say price range up to $300.

I´d say FRN Delica, unless she doesn´t like it´s looks. If she thinks it´s too small or too large some other similar Spyderco would do.

I've had a delica and that's hard to beat. You might also want to look at www.hideawayknife.com. I've ordered one to satisfy my curiosity. I think its great for women because they can slip in on and still hold a can of pepperspray if they find themselves in a tense situation. If they have no warning, a quick jerk will get it out and there's less chance of it being knocked out of their hand. I want one because it lets you grapple and slash/cut without having to put the knife down.

speaking of keyrings and pepperspray, why not an ASP Defender??

What do those Hideways go for, Ballpark?

Also, I think it goes without seying that a Concealex keychain sheath would be THE way to carry the Delica (or whatever knife you decide on). Eric at On Scene Tactical does good work.

Starting at $139 according to the site.

I like the shape but after having been disappointed by the Spyderco SPOT I'd have to hold it in my hand before I decided.

Hi,

What did you find disappointing about the SPOT? I collect small neck knives and am a general Spyderco fan, so I was thinking of getting one.

I wonder about the effectiveness of the HideAway Knife too, but I figured the best way to find out is to get one! I'll post my comments on the forum when I get it.

If your willing to spend $300, get her a small Sebenza. Great size, very sturdy folder that should last her forever.

I couldn't find a functional /comfortable grip no matter how I held it, the re curve was too short for the blade size, the blade should have been a little longer.

I tried the knife for opening boxes, not very good, opening mail, serrations got in the way.

The grip just bothered me, as a self defense piece I found the grip uncomfortable, and the piece was hard to pull from the sheath, and I was afraid the ballchain would break if I yanked too hard.

Funny thing though I think I may still buy one as I feel they will become highly collectible when they discontinue the model,(this is my opinion only and I have no inside info from Spyderco), but than I could be wrong and they'll sell a million of 'em.

I hate to chime in again with the Delica but that is what my wife has carried in her purse for the last several years. Started out with an original black FRN SE and now she has a pink SE. It is a great size, doesn't scare the sheeple too much especially in pink. It is very light in FRN and if your wife wants something a bit heavier in her hand it comes in SS which you can get engraved with something nice for her.
