Which khukuri style do the Ghorkas favor?

When a Nepali joins the Ghorkas, he is issued a standard BAS khukuri. However, he will also have his own personal khukuri which he uses when out in the field. I am wondering which style is most favored by the Ghorkas if they had a say in what to use.

Would it be Ang Khola or Sirupati or BAS or ?

Thanks for your replies,

Harry

I think it would largely depend on the regiment. As I understood it, the Gorkhas are made up largely of four ethnic groups, the Magars, Gurungs, Rais, and Limbus with each regiment dominated by a single ethnic group. I don't know what style the Magars and Gurungs would carry, but the Rais and Limbus may be somewhat biased toward Sirupatis.

Good information, guys. I wonder if Vikash has any further information he could contribute?

Sorry, Uncle Bill. I should have been more explicit. I was wondering what the Magars would favor in khukuri styles and which khukuris in the HI inventory would come close.

Any chance that there might be pix of the bancharo or hasia in your file of 10,000 pix, Uncle Bill?

You got me there!

I don't suppose that any of the BirGhorka kamis know how to make bancharos or hasias?

Gotta see, gotta see! Is this a similar design to our Indian and frontier 'hawks? Can anyone describe it, if we can't find pix?

I'd definitely be interested in a bancharo. Of course whether or not I could afford one is another matter altogether.

Tell us more on the hasia. How long, how heavy, etc.
