Which knife are you glad you didn't buy over the internet? I was thinking about the upcoming blade show and how it has possibly saved me money over the years. You see I rarely purchase a knife unless I get to see it in person first, and the Blade Show is a good place to see pretty much everything.

The two that come to mind for me (sacred cow tipping warning**) are a Microtech scarab and a Busse Hell Razor. I was all set to get both (different years) until I got the chance to handle them in person. Yikes! I didn't like the ergonomics on the microtech AT ALL, it was like holding a little square piece of sand paper and the Hell Razor looked like it was next of kin to a cold chisel.

What about you?

**Please note that these are my opinion of said knives if you like them that's fantastic, I don't.

Well this topic is sure to hurt some feelings :D

There was a time when I wanted quite a few different Benchmade models , one of which was the Rukus. Thankfully I managed to find a local shop that had a number of Benchmade knives , one of which was the Rukus and after handling the display model and a NIB knife I found the knife to be not worth the price and generally not to my liking.

I'm glad I didnt order one online ! :)

Back in the day, i was looking long and serious at a Gerber BMF and am sooo glad i didn't buy one. I went with a Buckmaster 184 early model and it was a good blade for the time.

I eventually gave to a friend who loved it more than i and he's using it to this day.

Sypderco Chicago I just about bought a 2nd off of ebay. Now I realize it is just too small for me. And I have Bladetech CF Mouse that is very close to the same size.

If I could find a CAT....at a good price.;)

Maybe, maybe not, I didn't like the knives above, but I purchased a mini-rukus at my local knife shop and it's one of my favorite edc knives. Different strokes and so on.

I could mention that I'm glad I got to handle Strider knives at the Blade show too (and would never own one) but that would be a little like throwing gas on a bonfire wouldn't it... ;)

Microtech UTX70. I must have looked at them 15 times and was ready to pull the trigger, but after seeing them on Youtube and handling a couple OTFs I realize that no matter how "cool" they are they are still trinkets taking up space of a real knife!

I am not as smart as some of you, I always have to buy one and trhen find out that it sucks.

Usually if I don't like a knife, it has something to do with gripping it, either to slick or to tacky.

EDIT: Whoops, misread the OP. I'm glad I didn't spend money on a Cold Steel Voyager and got a Spydie Delica instead. After getting to paw a voyager, I was not impressed....

Unfortunately where I live the only place to try before you buy is Walmart and the pawn shop. So, I almostalways have to go on instinct and lots of research.

Me personally, I'm pretty darn glad I didn't buy that Dalton DD I wanted so bad. Asthetically it is, in my eyes, one of the coolest knives around. It just looks like a knife a man in the military (or, even those who are in the process of becoming an officer like yours truely!) should have.

here it is:

But in the end I figured I didn't exactly need a switch blade (one with two edges at that) and I got a more traditional knife. Well, I'm glad I did! Had a run in with the cops and he asked if I had any weapons, had my little case trapperlock on me and told him about it, it was fine. Had I had that switch blade I might have actually had a problem instead of just a notice that my taillight was out.

I thought I wanted a Spyderco Paramilitary until I handled one. Thank you, knife shop in Old Town Kissimmee.

I do own about 10 different Spydies, I just didn't care for the Para.

I'm glad I didn't have thirty dollars in the ninth grade to buy that Frost Cutlery bowie knife I saw at the flea market. :p

Also that I grew out of wanting a Lord of the Rings Sword, in the eighth grade.

And I'm glad I didn't buy that Smith and Wesson SWAT knife.

You know what, it's easier to say I'm glad I had no money between the ages of 12-18 because if I did, I'd have a ton of cheap junk.

BM Mini-Grip. Specifically the 555HG (lol, HG55 above). I had one on order at NGK, but that was when they stopped getting Benchmades. Luckily they were out, and I never got mine (of course I didn't get charged for it, either.)

I came very close to buying the following online:

Benchmade Rift
Benchmade Kulgera
Benchmade Barrage
Several SOGs (I'm particularly happy to have avoided their folders)
Many Cold Steel and CRKT products (when I was an ignorant newbie)

I am now very happy that I didn't get any of them. Today, I don't shop for SOG, Cold Steel, or CRKT at all, and not much for Benchmade--they all seem to be more about style and less about function (except for SOG fixed blades and the Benchmade H&K line). Benchmade has decent quality but their prices are often way out of line vs. Spyderco.

CS voyager series for me. Held one in the store and did not like it one bit just felt cheap for some reason. Also the mini griptillian, but that one i bought at cabelas and returned, mind you I have only returned four things in my life to date, but those handles feel like the cheapest POS plastic to me. For the $90 I spent? I think not.

I'm really glad I didn't end up getting a CRKT knife (especially one of the M21, M16, and M4 series). I did all manner of research into them and was all set on making one of them my first 'high end' knife purchase, but went with the Kershaw Cyclone instead.

Years of using the Cyclone later and I don't regret that decision one bit. Furthermore I got the chance to try out some CRKT folders at a knife shop last year and was really unimpressed with them. They didn't fit my hands well at all, had blade play issues, etc.

The two most recent are the Benchmade Resistor folder and the Spyderco Captain. I do usually enjoy these companies knives, but after handling both I fould them to be too bulky and not very comfortable to hold or carry(especially the Resistor)

I've purchased all but one knife over the internet because of poor selection here in Reno B&M's. The only knives I regret buying over the internet are all the knives I bought the first year I beacame an enthusiast, cheap, overly tactical looking things indicative of my ignorance, and then a few that were "within specs" according to the dealer or the MFG but just didn't meet mine.
