which knife chould i buy, CRKT M16 or SOG Trident

I can't speak for the SOG knife but I have an M16 and love it. It is the larger tanto version or the "Big Dog" as it is sometimes called. It is very smooth, thin and very light. It has a solid lockup and absolutely no blade play. It is easy to sharpen and holds a good edge. I've had it about 4 years and couldnt be happier. The SOG looks good also and I bet is a really good knife.

thanks,

4 years mmmhh that is a good start:-) ,
uptill know it is going to be the m16.

anybody else?

I have never had a sog but I did have a CRKT-16. I really liked it it was easy to sharpen and seemed to be well made. But I guess somebody else liked it more because it grew leggs and walked off.

No experience with the SOG, but I also have an M16-13 and like it a lot.

I bought an M16 14M about three weeks ago and IMO it's a much better knife than the Trident Folder.

I handled a Trident folder yesterday and can say I was pretty disappointed with the overall quality. It seemed to me that the Zytel handle lacks good support and the blade seemed to wobble. I'm a SOG fan so this was a disappointment since I was prepared to buy it ( I wound up with a Kershaw Leek).

I have a SOG flash II ( aluminum scales) and it's a much better knife. I'm not sure if the Trident comes in aluminum but Id stay away from the Zytel version. It is a lighter knife to carry than the larger M16 knives, but the M16 seems more robust.

Moving from Traditional to Blade Discussion.

BTW I am a little prejudice, but I like the M-16. (Have not tried the new ones, but the originals were built very well.)

I haven't any experience with the SOG Trident , but I did have a SOG Twitch II and was quite dissappointed with it as it did have considerable play and the spring assist ended up breaking. Truthfully, the knife was better after I broke the spring as I was able to tighten the blade up a bit to reduce play(still had some, however).
I have had two M-16's ,an EDC and a M-16 CF. Both have been awesome and I wouldn't think twice about replacing either one. Both very sturdy with no blade play and good lock-up. I don't have a "Big Dog", but I imagine it would even be more sturdy. Good luck.

the big dog would be a little to big for edc i think, but m16 is the way to go. unless someone is gonna show how good the sog is:) .

Another consideration from CRKT is the Lightfoot M1. It has the same lock and steel as the M16, just a different design. I prefer the Lightfoot for its handle ergonomics; it has one of the most comfortable folding knife handles that I've felt. The main drawback to it, from my perspective, is the blade length; I like 4" long blades on my folding knives, and this one has a 3.125" blade. but, it's still a great knife. Either way, I think you'll do well with the CRKT knives.

I agree , the construction is remarkable but it is big, mine is the large tanto with the military finish, I bought it on the Internet without seeing it.
The smaller m16's might be better for EDC...

ANother vote for the CRKT's from me.

I was swayed from the SOG's for the aforementioned blade play problems they have had.

And for the record, My M21 is a pretty decent knife for the money paid, good blade(AUS8), Nice lock up, Al Scales And easy carry.
