This has been done before, but this is a dynamic subject that can change from day to day for an individual.
So, which knife of yours was a down right steal or you feel you really came out with the better part of the deal on?

My most recent has to be the Kershaw Vapor II I got for under $25.00. Absolutely freaks me out to have a high quality Frame-Lock folder with a 3 1/2" blade for that price point.

My absolute best buy is still the forged Henckel's 8" carver for under $2.00.
That one still makes me grin every time I use it.:D

Without a doubt the best deal I have gotten on a knife was the large model 2 Mike Obenauf folder I recently bought. I think anyone who has bought a Obenauf will agree. For a maker who hasn't been around very long the knives coming out are fantastic values. You really end up getting a $500.00 custom knife for $350.00. I like it so much I just ordered another large model 2 today that will be here next week. Going to try and get a large model 2 framelock also.

Hey, won't be long until these $500.00 quality folders will be costing that much!!

It was an antique. I picked up an R.H. Boker MOP pen knife on E-Bay for less than $30. R.H. Bokers were only made in the mid 1850's and is worth close to $300.

Yard sale. Case chromed carver, Old Hickory butcher and a Western L-77 stilleto, all for $5. Heck, the Old Hickory has been a good bargain at that price ;)

The L-77 is not a minty showpiece mind you but the guy insisted that it was all three or none. A nice one is probably still in the $300+ range.

I may top that some day but it was a well spent $5

Cheers

Let's see-

Vietnam era Camillus 'Fighting Knife' $10 flea market.

Benchmade NIB Mini-TSEK for $35 website (wrong price-owner honored it).

Benchmade 812BT Mini AFCK $65 Cheaper Than Dirt (this was several years ago when they were going for $85 everywhere else).

Spyderco NIB G10 Police $65 website (sent in place of SS that was out of stock).

Sypderco Co-Pilot $29.99 SRKW (still available).

Kershaw Chive $27 Botach Tactical.

Large Spyderco Dyad $49.99 SRKW.

Victorinox Outdoorsman FREE from Marlboro (OK, so I lost the time from my life from smoking, but this is about knives).

By far the best deals I have gotten are the John Greco knives I got from CQC for $50 each. Unbelievable price imho for handmade knives of this quality.

A Case Equal end pen from the 20's-30's, I bought at an Estate Auction for $3

Edited for spelling

PS never partially open both blades on a double bladed knife, with a single backspring at the same time as this may ruin the back spring by overstressing it.

There are two.

The first was an old Dacor diving knife. Not sure what kind of steel it is made of, but it seems to be a very strong and sturdy knife. Traded an Crossman (Peacemaker) style BB gun for it when I was about 10 or 12 years old. I think the knife belonged to my friend's older brother.

The second was a Puma Hunter's Pal. I had another friend that was using it to start his car, stuck it in his ignition. I broke his chops about it for weeks. He eventually told me he would give me the knife if I gave him a screwdriver to use in starting his car. I promptly ran in my house and got him one. ;)

Still have both knives today......Too bad I don't have friends like that around anymore.:D

Geez, I'm not sure. It might have been the $90+Spyderco Wayne Goddard with the micarta slabs that I bought from a dealer for $46.

It might have been the Benchmade Mini AFCK I bought from a dealer for $66. It might have been the Benchmade long version CQC7 I got from another dealer for $55.

Or maybe it's the Randall 15, a 1970s-era model with a spear point and sawback that I bought from a guy on rec.knives for $75.

Yeah, I think that's the best deal.

35.00 for my Spydie G10 Police
35.00 for a BM 722 (which I'm actually picking up today)

90.00 for an Emerson Commander (still on order)

These are my best deals. Not too shabby...keeps me ticking!!!

Howdy There...!
The best deal I have gotten is, an early George Herron made in the early 70's. Found it in an antique shop for $150, have been offered $300 for it by Mr. George himself. Trying to work a trade with him for one of his folder.
Later "Possum"

Probably best deal was trade made recently - traded MT SOCOM TANTO that never cared for for Boguszewski Wegner folder with Micarta scales even up - have wanted a custom Wegner hunter for years but never gotten around to buying.

I got a Randall model 10 for a $1.00 at a Goodwill. At the same store I got 3 Spyderco kitchen knives for a total of $5.00.

I bought a LNIB full sized Spyderco Rescue for $25, from a pawn shop that didn't know what they had. ;) I really liked this Spydie, but I gave it to my father-in-law because:

1.) I felt that he could put it to good use(he's a firefighter), and

2.) he doesn't really like knives with a "tactical look", much less Spydies, but this one really appealed to him.

2 Mini Randall 1, consecutive numbers ---> $1100

1 Mini Randall 3 ---> $450

They keep increasing in value, can't imagine how much they are worth in a couple of years :D

I think my best bargain so far has been my Bob Dozier Texas #6. He is as good as any maker out there, but he keeps his prices down to where non-collectors can afford them. I'm sure he could get three or four times what he asks.

I paid just over $200 for a knife that I expect to be in my family, and in use, for generations.
