I know, I post this thread everytime I take a motocamping trip. Gear selection is half the fun, so humor me!

On Sunday I am leaving for a solo motorcycle trip down to VA to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway for a few days, camping along the way. I'll have my trusty Vic Spirit multi, of course, and a hatchet, but what knife to bring? Here are my options:

SDS Nessmuk
BRK&T Mini Canadian
Helle Futura
GEC #23
Boker Subcom

when riding, I choose a folder that I can pull and open with my gloves so from my point of view is better to check . if you don't wear gloves, I advise you to use them :)

Well, I would take the Bark River but honestly your list is too short, don't you need to add a few more to that short list.

I made sure my bike had plenty of storage for knives and junk:) I guess I had the tour pack off the bike when I took this picture.

Skip the short stuff and go with a Katana or Cavalry Saber. You need reach! Mac

It's probably going to be the Nessmuk, since that knife hasn't made it off my property yet!:o It needs some camp time. There's a nice picture of it in the Nessmuk thread from a couple days ago.

I'll also have my Vic Spirit and my hatchet. I'll stick my Boker Subcom in a pocket of my riding suit just because it's so small and handy.

In case you're curious, the bike for this trip is an '03 Kawaski Concours - a great travelin' bike. I always wear full, high quality, head-to-toe gear when I ride.

Definitely the Nessmuk. Nice knife and it really needs some travel time.

I'd offer my vote but I may not be completely impartial.

I would love to see some pictures of the trip when you get back. I haven't been on the Blue Ridge Parkway in quite a few years. The Connie is a great bike too.

I don't get to do nearly as much pleasure riding as I used to but still manage to put between 20,000-25,000 miles a year on a bike. I'm pretty sure I've put more miles on bikes than I've driven in cars over the past 10 yrs.

Have a blast, bring back some pictures and stay safe.

A Connie! My wrists are still numb from the last one I had 10 years ago!
I couldn't take it anymore and had to part with her. Have they remedied the vibration yet?

My Connie has never had the vibes that bad. I did the usual tricks to smooth it out (careful carb sync, torque engine mounts, balance shaft adjust.). I also added bar risers and sit upright on it, so there is less pressure on my wrists.

Anyway, I took along the SDS Nessmuk, Vic Spirit, and my decent but anonymous hatchet. I also had a Boker Subcom folder stashed in a pocket for convenience.

I didn't end up using them much, since the focus of the trip was riding rather than woods stuff. However, they did light duty opening up packages and preparing campfires. I am glad to have had my sharp little friends along though. I'll see if I an link to some pictures later . . .
