As most of you remember, I'm sure, I won Tommythewho's giveaway for the wood grips with the inlayed copper BK2, which I intend to have engraved for my father and send him a BK2 with a Skystorm sheath for Christmas.

I got grips right away, and today I finally received the new BK2. It's the new coating with laser engraving. Now, I was really trying to decide if I should etch and strip it, or leave it black.... So I took some pics with the scales on the new knife... then I took some pics with the scales on my stamped BK2 which has been stripped...

Let me know what you guys think... which one would you prefer?

If its for a gift is it better just to leave the coating so the new owner can decide what to do with it ? At least I would want the option personally.

I hear ya. That's kind of what I was thinking... but my old man would never tinker with his knife. I'm going to ship it with the nice wood scales, but suggest if he intends to actually use and thump on the knife, to switch out the grivory scales... I doubt he'll even do that. lol...

If he does use it... it'll see heavy use for all kinds of utility tasks. He's a truck driver in the midwest. I'm figuring I'll probably just leave it stock though...

Stripped matches the scales better.IMHO Scales have a nice natural wood and hand tooled look. New coating has a more modern look.

I like the stripped BK-2 with those scales. But you should prolly leave it and let your father decide what he would like.
