Which knife have you carried the most?

Here's mine:

I bought this knife back in 1970 or 71 and it was my every day carry for over 20 years. It still goes where I go, mostly in my backpack I carry to work every day, but it still goes fishing and hunting and backpacking too. But recently I thought I'd pick up another one only to find out that evidently they don't make 'em anymore.

I was kinda ticked. I have another one just like it except the main blade is serrated, the small blade is a wharncliff, and it has a corkscrew instead of a phillips--kind of an odd ball I picked up from a friend of mine who bought it in Germany back in the early 70s.

If I can't get a new one, I'd at least like to get this one refurbished. Anyone know how to go about that?

Anyway, so what knife has been your longest companion?

Hoodoo - try getting in touch with Victorinox first and ask. The cracked scale is no problem for them to replace, as those are pretty much standard items and I'm sure they have replaced many in the past. Hope this helps.

I don't know what they call it. I can't find it on any of the websites, not even this one: http://www.swiss-knife.com/

Dexter, thanks for the tip. I'll have to look around and see what I can find. I'm not sure how to go about contacting the folks at Victorinox. Maybe someone here will post something.

Mine has to be a Victorinox Spartan and Soldier, I've had one or another in my pocket for the last twenty-five years. Unfortunatly I don't have the original ones I recieved, and have gone through many ocer the years. I know I lost the first few, had some stolen in my youth, and have given the exta knife in my pocket away on occation.

It is nice to see you still have such an old friend

Fire Horse,
Thanks for the tip! I just sent them an email. For sure I will have the scales replaced and possibly the main blade. I wonder if that is a mistake though. Is the older steel better than the newer steel? I have many newer SAKs and haven't noticed a difference, though.

stjames,
Yup, there's nothing like an old knife that you've used a thousand times and still keeps on keeping on. This one was the second SAK I ever bought. The first one I left along a trout stream in New Jersey. Hope someone else enjoyed it as much as I did.

Before joining BFC, the Gerber Gator. Since joining BFC, the small Sebenza. The last 30 days, the large Mayo TNT. Next month, hopefully the medium TNT.

The knife I carry most is a Bub Worrell peanut, it is a small custom made knife, very nice, maybe a tad pricier than most SAK or Spyderco carriers would spend, but still a very nice little knife to carry daily, will fit comfortably in your jean pants watch pocket, or front pocket without making a big lump.

Comes with a sheath, mine is Black Same' and his damascus and 4 different filework patterns around it. Not bad at all.

I carry an Emerson CQC-7 daily where I go. Still works fine, and I can
still open the blade lightning-fast. I wouldn't trade it, even for an
Emerson Commander. I actually prefer the straight blade.

Guess that would be the Gerber Paul that I bought in 1982, and carried every day until 1997.

Of course, the Buck Trapper I bought back in 1971 is the one that really deserves the longevity award. I only carried it for 10 years, but it still sees use around the house; in fact, my wife has recently claimed it for herself. That knife has seen a lot of use and abuse, and has held up to it all.

Over a lifetime? Buck 110
Past 2 years- Madpoet D2 drop point fixed blade. Gene Osborn (CenterCross) scale release auto wharncliff folder.

V-nox Pocket Pal, I use it all the time, and my Spyderco Delica. No matter how many new knives come along, I always gravitate back to these two.

For a long time it was a 3 blade Old Timer pocket knife. Here lately it has been my rekat pioneer II and a leatherman micra. They may both be small, but they handle most things I need cut. When I go hiking, I carry my spec plus marine.

Small plain Left Handed Sebenza.

I will probably carry it forever.
