Which knife should I get..?

With hunting season fast approaching, I'm in need of a new knife. There are just so many selections out there my head is spinning already. I do have some specifications, I hope fellow knife knuts can help me out:

- mostly used for hunting (deer, duck/geese for now), but may EDC
- much prefer folder over fixed
- blade length should be no less than 3"
- budget around $100, give or take ~$25 (pretty flexible)
- (optional) black blade

I don't mind used blades either, but I can't seem to find any that fits my want/need on the blade exchange. Also, should I order online, or go to a local shop?

Can someone recommend a few knives for this newb? Much appreciated :D

One of these. Just got the BM today!

Maybe all you need is a buck 110. it certainly fits your specifications.

Demfer: Those look pretty good! Mind telling me what brand/model they are? And how much did you pay for them?

Sorin: Can't say I like the looks of those, but the price is tempting.

I was browsing through some shops and a couple caught my eye:

ZT 200 (yes this is a little out of my price range )

Kershaw Silver Blur Speed Safe

Benchmade Apparition

Does anyone have any experience with the above knives? I'd rather pay a few bucks more than to get some junk and having to buy another one afterwards.

Hit the nail on the head. Get yourself a Buck 110, only $30 and classic.

If you would prefer, you can go for the Cabela's Alaskan Guide version with S30V

Ah, well you do make it difficult...or easy, depending on how you look at it. You're going to be using this for hunting, you say? Folder, uh-huh. Blade length greater than 3 inches. Hmmm. You want teeth on that? You have a hundred bucks (would you like that wrapped, sir?), and a black blade. I do commend you on your taste.

Oh, and you want to be able to carry it all the time.

Well, you might take a look at the Cold Steel Recon 1 series, or you may wish to consider the CRKT M16-13LE or the M16-14LE (all have AUS 8A stainless). The CRKTs also employ the LAWKS locking system. (I'm not fond of linerlocks.)

Cold Steel Recon-1 are nice knives with AUS-8A stainless.

A little expensive, the Spyderco Lum G-10 is very nice.

The Benchmade Pardue 530 al$o i$ quite nice.

Let us know the one you go with!

How about a Spyderco Native? It's lightweight, made of premium S30V stainless steel, comes sharper than most any knife you'll buy, and is $50 by mail order or at Wally World. It's a drop-point blade that is my favorite for field-dressing whitetails, and it's small enough to use on small game. I like the way it looks, too....

Good luck in your choice; there are a LOT of choices!

Stay sharp,

So far the Cold Steel Recon 1 has really caught my eye, and the price is right. I've also heard good things about the Benchmade 710 (though more expensive), it's kinda between those two now... what do you think?
