I am a women and have no absolute clue on knives, some of my friends and personal research has lead me to choosing between the following options below:

Which one do you consider the best out of these ones, or probably you could recommend some other options in this price range? (200-250€)

Will be super grateful for any advice!

I see a euro type monetary symbol. make sure whatever you pick is legal where your bf is gonna be, do and such and use it. blade lengthwise and lock allowed or not, etc.

as for picking....such a personal choice. any way to get some input from the bf if ya haven't already?

I like three of the 4. the Ferrum t doesn't catch my eye, but that's me. I'd be happy with the other 3 choices. you didn't have multiple picks allowed in your poll, so I picked the zt as I know this knife firsthand.

Out of the four brands I currently only have ZTs, though I had a DPX (lionsteel) for many years and it was a great knife. I voted ZT!

But certainly check legality. Maybe let us know what countries your BF would be carrying the knife in and some of our Euro members can chime in.

I have additionally added one more option, a Benchmade 940-2 Osborne; would you still go for a ZT?

I agree on ZT. 0470 would be my pick as I don't like assisted knives.

Now that you've added the Benchmade, I'd pick that. The 940 is a classic that's been around for a long time and is a favorite for EDC. If he's not used to carrying knives, the slim profile and light weight will make that transition easier.

ZT is a great company but a lot of their knives weigh like bricks in the pocket, so that wouldn't be my recommendation for a first knife. The Spyderco Paramilitary is also really popular but they tend to feel large in the pocket as well. If the European knives on your list are comparatively less expensive in your country they may be worth looking at, Extrema Ratio is usually seen as too "tacticool" and Viper isn't as well known here. If you can still find heavy discounts on a Lionsteel TiSpine that might be worth looking at.

Personally I prefer ZT over Benchmade. But I would recommend a flipper, like K.O.D. K.O.D. I prefer the non assisted knives. ZT0470 would be an excellent knife, or if laws allow (length of blade), the ZT0452 is fantastic. If a smaller blade is required the ZT0450 is also a great knife.

Might consider a Quiet Carry Drift in your range, great slicey ECD. Could also get a super nice Spyderco Manix 2 with a nice high end steel with that budget. But anything on your list would certainly signal to the BF that you're a keeper, nicely done!

Extrema Ratio, Viper, and Lionsteel are all based in Europe and that means warranty issues should be much easier to deal with. Assuming that is important to you or your BF. Any would make an excellent gift, but my preference leans slightly toward the Lionsteel.

I assume you made that list of specific knives for a reason, so I won't waste your time trying to mention other knives.

Sub 3" and slipjoint if you're UK based, I wouldn't risk a beat frisk. If you just want me to shut up and vote --- ZT

I've only ever been impressed by Viper and Lionsteel knives. From what you listed I would choose one of those two.

As others have said, you could narrow your options by helping us know more about your fella:
- is he handy with tools?
- Does he already have any knives?
- Does he like to fish, hunt, hike, camp, tinker in a workshop?
- Is he mindful with his tools or does he use them recklessly until they break and buy a new one?
- Depending on the laws in your jurisdiction, will he be able to carry it outside of the home?

Regardless, I'm sure he will be thrilled with whatever you choose.

Welcome. I own a ZT0770 (Aluminum/Elmax, not CF version) and a 940-2. I would pick and carried the 940-2 today. I suspect opinions will continue to be split, as both are nice choices, so any clue or thought about which he may like better could tip the scale. Cannot speak to those particular models, but the Viper and LionSteel slipjoints I have are really nice too.

Of all those listed, I’m kinda partial to the 0770. Maybe because I have one, and it’s my favorite ZT - nice size and weight (NOT a brick like many other ZT’s), nice ergos, great action, and one of the most all-around useful blade shapes. I actually have that Benchmade, too, but between the two I prefer the ZT.

Do you have a sister?? 🤣
