My national guard unit was actavated and we were told to have our bags packed. I want to buy a new knife I was leaning toward a Strider BT. Is this a good knife for combat/survival? I also wanter to buy a folder any ideals on something sturdy? Thanks

For a fixed blade, the Strider will fit the bill. For a folder, I can suggest the waved CQC7b from Emerson (pic below).

By the way, welcome to the forums.

My vote for the folder goes to SERE 2000 :D

BTW that Emerson looks hot. Plus it will look even hotter next to Strider BT. I still like my SERE better though

Microtech LCC DA or SOCOM DA. . .or a CRK large Sebbie (regular or Classic).

I have no experience with emersons 9hopefully will change in the not to distant future) but many folks swear by them and I believe they are very solid knives. I chose a BM 910 Stryker because I like the M2 steel option the benchmade offers along with a double sided grind. Good luck on both the knive purchasing process and your deployment.

A Strider BT, MT, WB, GS, MH, or BG would do nicely. For a folder you can't go wrong with a new Benchmade Axis AFCK.

Your getting plenty of good advice on knives. So I wonder, if You have any high ranking NCO buddies that can get you a M-9- 9mm aka Beretta 92. Cause if you can lay hands on one over there and a couple mags with ammo, maybe you should take a good concealment holster along., then get the pistol once in country, from somebody that trusts you to give it back when you leave. You would have to keep it concealed, but if your not going to be searched everywhere you go, its worth a try. If you have to use a knife for anything but utility, they are way too close and a couple 40-50 rounds of 9mm will do you a lot more good. I suppose it would be too difficult and probably get you in trouble to sneak a small pistol or revolver of your own along. Hard to detect pistols in baggage if you break them down. Be nice if they just let you do it. Other than that my first idea might work. Its what I would be trying. Senior NCO's make the world go around. Without them nothing happens.
