Which knife to buy?

Hi all. I am looking for a good pocket knife for everyday carry that has a low mount clip. What I mean by that is a knife with a clip that will allow the knife to ride very low in my front pocket so that as little of the knife as possible is showing. The blade has to be less than 3 inches and I prefer a 50/50 serrated blade. Please provide any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, welcome to the forums. There are probably hundreds of knives that fit your description, so perhaps if you narrow it down a bit more for us we'll be able to give you some specific examples. For instance, what is the approximate price range? Do you have any preference on scale materials? Opening mechanism (e.g., hole, thumbstud, nail nick)? Intended use (e.g., an EDC for a farmer vs. an office worker might be two very different things). Any more info. you can provide will help everyone give you the best possible suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Mark. Thanks for the quick reply. To answer a few of your questions, the watch will be for jeans carry. No farming for this city slicker ;~)

I would like to keep the price in the $50 to $100 range and I don't have any real preference regarding the handles or opening mechanism. The main criteria is the low ride of the knife with as little as possible showing, and the blade has to be <3 inches. Thanks!

Regards,
Frank

is supposed to ride pretty low. It's in the size and price range. I haven't handled one, though, so I can't say what the lockup is like. But if it's going to be used more in an office setting and not the great outdoors I'm guessing it would do just fine.

That helps. Here are some suggestions. All are under $100, have clips, ride relatively low. I didn't check the 50/50 combo edge criterion, since many of these available in a variety of edges.

"Jeans" Office Casual Knives
- Camillus EDC
- Benchmade 705 (I don't remember how low this rides, but I think it would be OK)
- CRKT Point Guard
- Some Spydercos probably fit in here, but I'll let others with more knowledge make the suggestions

Dressier Knives
- Camillus EDC 125th Anniversary Edition
- CRKT Tighe Tac
- Gerber AR 3.0 (best buy, if you can live with the steel)
- Kershaw Chive (esp. the boron carbide coated one!)
- Kershaw Rainbow leek (sticks out a bit more than others)

And of course, the venerable Swiss Army Knife -- appropriate for almost any occasion, but of course no clip. Hope that helps.

You might want to take a look here: http://www.sekidirect.com/Products.htm
I have the smaller Seki Cut Bob Lum Encounter. It rides low, with only about 0.25 inch above the clip. Top quality, choice of scale materials and wickedly sharp D2 blade for about $80.00 They were offering free shipping, you'll need to check if that's still valid.
Very happy with mine, YMMV :)

Opps, missed your less than 3" requirement. The Lum comes in at 3.25"

Mate, see if you can find a spyderco small calypso
or spyderco native. Both are excellent small carry
knives.
