few days ago ,i got my knife from MLL Knives ,and i love it too much .

as it is a big knife 6 1/2 inches ,1/4 thick ,so i want to pair a knife with it .

please help me to select one knife as paring around 100$ for small tasks.

i was looking for some ESEE ,BK and ontario .i like bark rivers ,but i think they are expensive !!

your comments will help me to find best knife.
thanks all

My bk14 gets more use than any other knife I own. I love it so much I have 3 of them and just got a bk24. One is set up for cosmetics, stripped, tommythewho scales and leather sheath. One is a user and abuser, azwelke kydex, marked up black coating and stock plastic scales. The third just as a back up. There inexpensive and a very useful knife. I recommends getting scales and the azwelke kydex fits like a glove while allowing u to get full purchase on the knife while drawing. Just my .02. Good luck and enjoy the hunt.

I like old-timey folders furood, my taste in folders are simple, non locking carbon steel that runs about $15USD.

Not many fixed blades can match the blade shape of a traditional folder like the Opinel, though I do have one that does, it is an antique.

I suggest Getting an Opinel #9 and a Svord Peasant and take it from there for about $30. Both will stand to alot of abuse.

The Svord is kind of semi fixed blade as In if you removed the handle, you're still holding the tang in your hand. It folds like an Old timey razor and can bend and snap back really well.

I like the Opinel blade shape much better, it is hardto beat for food prep and the Svord can not outdo it this area which is a key thing for your companion blade to do.

You will have no trouble getting these non-locking folders to your country. Actually the modern Opinel does have a lock but I prefer mine without it and a very snug pivot pin.

Opinel=XC90 Carbon steel

Svord=L6 Carbon steel

Also a Mora 511 comes pretty close to the blade shape my pocket Opinel and it is fixed. It cost about $8 USD.

Both Opinel and Mora can be had in Stainless or Carbon in just about every model.

Mora is where it's at in wilderness blades that aren't for beating on.

Also I like the Bk14 but not as my smaller companion blade, the shape is too wide. I've been wanting to get one for a while now as one fixed blade to replace larger knives yet still perform in an emergency. It would be all I carried on a shirt little trip where wood processing is not intended such as fishing, in addition to my folder of course.

I have opinel 8 and Bahco 2444(same as Mora clipper ),one of the items I was looking today was, Mora bushcraft kit in black.

I also checked esee, bikers and Ontario!
ESee is most expensive !!
I dont know why ??because i never had bekers or esee ,so i dont know if it worth or not ?

Could any body tell me differences between bark rivers and esee knives?
I noticed most sites offer bark rivers with A2 steel while esee 3,4 are in 1095 steel.
Is A2 so much better than 1095 ?with so much difference?

I'm pretty fond of the Izula 2. Best small knife I've owned. A folder wouldn't be a bad idea either. Maybe a SAK farmer?

Both Beckers and ESEE are 1095 Carbon steel, it is a tough steel that takes holds an edge well and can easily be resharpened.

1095 can be beaten on, the Bk24 however is D2 steel and holds an edge much longer but is tough to resharpen and should not be beaten on as it can chip out.

Farmer is not locking blade, so I prefer not to count on it as pairing knife.
I often edc it in city .

I do like it, that's a very nice collection there brother. It looks to me like you are already well set :) there a plenty if knives there that will pair lovely with your blade.

What happened to only being able to have one knife? Has there been a change in customs policy that will allow fixed blades? I was going to offer to send you a small fixed blade but now it looks like I don't have to xP you have plenty!

Heck, I just got a new Becker in the mail while typing this, you should give them a try :)

Can you give us some criteria for the blade you have in mind so that we don't keep spouting random ideas? It will be more useful in locating what you want.

Also do you have a good folding saw? You need a food lightweight folding saw if you spend anytime in the bush, even if it's just for backup if your big knife fails; you do t want to be stuck with just your small knife abusing your only blade left.

to me what makes ESEE worth the extra cash is their warranty go to ESEE's website and look into it.. you can't beat it!. as far as the blade steel goes i'm not the guy to ask, I don't know enough about it to educate you on the pro's and cons of each steel :p

Actually I am not in U.S. ,so cannot use the warranty .
So you mean, the only difference for their price is for warranty?

This has not been mentioned yet, but if you are not going to abuse the small task knife, I would recommend a knife from Big Chris here on the forums. I have two of his hunter models with a very thin blades in a kydex sheath, a 3/32 and one in 1/16. He has several up for sale, some in the exchange as the 100 knives/neckers. Chris has said the hunter has become one his most requested patterns.

" if your ESEE knife fails for any reason, we willl replace it free of charge anywhere on the planet " that's quoted from their warranty on the official website ,so yes you are covered even if you don't live in the US :D

here's the link to the warranty so you can see for yourself! : http://www.eseeknives.com/warranty.htm
