I am speaking about folders not fixed blades. It doesn't have to be the company's offical flagship model but rather the model that the public thinks is the flagship.

I think I know of a few flagship models. I may be wrong. If you have other ideas, let me know. Also, do you think it is best to start with the flagship model if you are new to a certain maker?

Benchmade: 710 Axis

Al Mar: Sere 2000

Spyderco: Not sure but maybe the Police model?

Kershaw: Chive or Scallion. These are the knives I think of when I think of modern Kershaws.

Buck: It used to be the 110 but I don't know what it is now.

Any others?

Benchmade: 710 manual, 42 balisong, AFO auto
Spyderco: Military
Microtech: SOCOM (UT6 if you count OTFs)
Protech: Godfather
CRKT: M16
Chris Reeve: Sebenza (duh)
Cold Steel: I don't know, Vaquero maybe?
Emerson: CQC7 or Commander
Al Mar: SERE 2K
Kershaw: Leek

Microtech: SOCOM/ums/udt
CRKT: M16, but their first was a hammond
Cold Steel: their tantos, it got them started before lynn got cocky
Emerson: CQC6
Kershaw: bump, signature ken onion design
sog: bowie

Spyderco Endura
Cold Steel Voyager
Benchmade Griptilian
SOG Flash series
Kershaw Ken Onion series
CRKT M16 series
Buck 110
Schrade Cave Bear
Case Trapper
CRK Sebenza
Strider SMF?
Randall 1
Victorinox Swiss Champ
Leatherman Wave

Spyderco has to be Delica and Endura!!!!!

Benchmade used to be AFCK, now maybe the 710.

Buck 110 may still be the "flag ship " for the very idea of "pocket knife"

Victorinox............. take your pick but best sellers probably Executive and Tinker

How can anyone say the 'Spyderco flagship' is anything BUT the Manix? Haven't you seen the Manix cult developing on the forums these last few months? Its becoming a frenzy.

Considering the Manix has not even been out a year I would be hesitant to call it a flagship model. The Delica and the Endura are the top Spyderco sellers and have been around for a lot longer. Plus, if you were to go to a normal sporting goods store if they carried Spyderco it would most likely be the Endura and Delica over any other models. So my picks would be:

Spyderco: Delica / Endura
Benchmade: Griptillians
Coldsteel: Voyager
CRKT: M16s
Buck: 110
Al Mar: SERE 2K

Best sellers certainly, but I don't think either would qualify for "flagship status.
To me flagship means top quality materials, higher than normal manufacturing, something the rest of the line up aspire to become, as well as the popularity to back it up. If we were to carry on the naval termanology then possibly size and strength would have to come into it (not too many flagship frigates ;) ).
With all that I would have to say the Police would have been the early Spyderco Flagship, with the Military holding the title in recient years, and possible the Manix is a contender for the crown (will have to prove longevity first).

Personally, I would associate with "flaggship" the most *prestigious* (what ever that means) not the most *representative*. So for Spyderco I would definitely say: Ti ATR. And for Benchmade most certainly the 706 not the 705.
Therefore I wonder whether CRK even produces anything other than flaggship models?

I had been thinking along those same lines since the Sebbie was mentioned as being the CRK "flagship". While I don't disagree with that assertion, I would also assert that the Mnandi, Umfaan and one-piece line are just as prominent and relevant in their own right. Just my .02. ;)

(BTW, considering the world’s present economic state does giving one’s .02 really mean that much anymore? Shouldn't we be giving at least our .10 or even .25? Think about it.) :D ;)

I define "flag ship" as a model that not only sells well but has come to represent the company. It must be representive of what the company stands for.

If we were talking cars, the Ford Taurus used to be considered the falg ship sedan of that company. Ford as well as most of the customers agreed on this. It was not the most prestigeous auto they made but it did stand for what the company wanted to portray. It was one of their top sellers, it was considered a good car in it's class and people seemed to like it. That is what I mean by flag ship. Not the most expensive or luxurious car but the flag ship all the same.

The Manix can't be the flag ship of Spyderco quite yet but it may become it someday. Not enough people know about it and they have not sold enough yet for it to be crowned a flag ship.

Spyderco and Benchmade are not as easy as some other companies to define their falg ship. I think it is because they both have had a lot of popular models that were well made and liked by the public. That is a good thing because it shows that they are not "one hit wonders". Not to say that others companies only produce one good knife but sometimes one knife seems to grab most of the attention for some reason. This is good for business because it introduces people to the company by the fame of one knife. Having one big hit can put you on the map in the knife world.
