I'm looking for a full size multi-tool, and I cant decide which one to get there are so many options, and being new to this they all look the same to me. I really like the MUT because of the carabiner clip, but there are still a couple of options there. What is the difference between Clam and Box?

thanks much.

For the price and the tools the ST300 is the way to go! The MUT is very specialized but can be used for some general purpose tasks.

The MUT is a nice tool. Tad pricey.
While directed toward shooters its still a good general use MT.
Big and heavy.

The pouch is really oustanding. IMHO one of the best LM has made. Very flexible and lots of little pockets to stick stuff.

The carabiner is handy. When mine arrived it was missing , but a simple call to LM and they mailed me a replacement clip.

Other choices might be:
Charge TTi - slightly cheaper than the MUT, even when bought with the 40 piece bit kit.
Super Tool 300
Skeletool - Smaller and more light weight than the above, but does have a carabiner.:D

I think you're referring to packaging. Clamshell (blister pack) vs. box.

I like the Supertool 300 as well, like RickJ mentioned. I also like the Surge quite a bit. Great tools for the money, and I've actually been extremely impressed with Leatherman's 420HC Steel for the blades. They take a great edge very easily.

I agree. I prefer it to the Surge, Wave and others in part because it has a real 3-dimensional phillips. But for $53 shipped (on a big auction site), its quite a deal.

Watch also for the upcoming Leatherman Rebar, which is a 3/4 size version of the ST300. Thats going to be awesome. (Edit: March 2012).

ST 300.

It really depends what tools you need. I personally like the Charge TTi. The MUT is designed for the maintenance of firearms, most tools are useless otherwise.

The ST300 is a great heavy duty tool, pliers are one of the best and screwdrivers can take quite a bit of abuse. Charge TTi has the bit driver which is very nice, and it also has one hand opening knives.

+1. I have abused my ST300 daily for about 2 years now, gone through 4 sheaths, no more than a scratch or 3 dozen on the tool. Like Alann45 said, clam = plastic shell packaging (on the pegboards of 99% of the stores you will go to) box= simple cardboard box. No difference in the tool itself.
