hi all, i need imput on which locks you feel can be best manipulated when working with gloves on. Usually at work i have a pair of Mechanix Pro Fit gloves on, or something similar.
For reference, http://www.tasco-safety.com/workgloves/mechanix-pro-fit-series-gloves.html#h25-01

these are not very thick and a lockback is no problem, but using a liner lock as been almost impossible. Of course I prefer a fixed blade when possible. and with heavy winter or work gloves a fixed blade is definately the easiest.

any opinions? I was thinking about a BM with an Axis lock.

right now im using a Kershaw Avalanche and Spyderco Harpy(yes thats grip tape)

Easy to use with gloves...

Lockback
Axis-lock
Arc-lock
Opinel lock
Bali-song
Phantom-lock
Button-lock

Ones that can sometimes be a little difficult with gloves...

Liner-lock
Frame-lock
Compression-lock
Ball-lock

I had no problem using my Emerson CQC-7 with gloves, but I'd have to say the best one I've used to date, is the ZT 0500 Mudd. Great knife with gloves on.

The axis-lock "should" be fine, if you can manipulate/feel it through your gloves, you'll be fine. Personally, I'd try it with your gloves on first, if you can. But the axis-lock "should" work fine.

Other knives that should work fine are the Kershaw RAM & Spyderco P'Kal. Obviously, lock-backs should be fine. "Some" liner & frame locks will work "OK", but in general, they're not as easy to manipulate with gloves on.

Axis lock is a good bet. I was surprised to find that my mini Griptilian is just as easy to manipulate with work gloves on as it is bare handed. However, some Axis lock bars do not protrude as much as others, notably on the 530, so the ease may vary.

Really depends on the weight of the gloves, with unlined work or shooting gloves I can operate just about any liner or frame lock. With insulated gloves I find backlocks to be easiest. Of course for when it really gets cold out I can operate my Twistmaster even with these gloves...

I've had an easy time using my Spyderco Military and Manix with gloves on.

Another vote for a ZT 0500. I know it will be all I hoped when/if arrives this evening. With that said I am sure axis locks or framelocks would be easily manipulated.

I believe the BM Rukus was designed with glove usage in mind...

Or a nice heavy duty Framelock...

The new ZT0500 has an oversized lock button and thumb studs for use with gloves on:

I've used a few different knives with fairly heavy gloves (it usually doesn't get more than ten degrees below zero here). The easiest to manipulate that I have found so far is the Spyderco Military liner lock. It could be because Sal Glesser designed that one to be used with heavy gloves on...

I wear less bulky leather/insulated gloves in the winter and have had no problems with a lock back, a liner lock, or an Opinel ring lock.

Easiest for me to use with gloves are...

BM's Axis Lock
SOG's Arc-Lock
Spyderco's Backlock

Kershaw's Stud Lock hasn't been mentioned yet and would be fine with gloves. It's found on the Bumps, Offsets, and Mojos.

This thread is interesting to me because many days I have to work in a -20 degrees F freezer for a couple hours.

The axis lock/cold steel's "Ultra Lock" looks easy to manipulate even with the thickest mitts. I've never had the chance to handle one of these myself. I'm sure someone who owns one can verify or otherwise clarify this for us.

At work I carry a knife that I can open and close while wearing thick fire gloves:

Benchmade Griptilian (Axis) or
Spyderco Pacific Salt or Endura (Lockback)

In general lockbacks have been easiest for me, but the easiest is the Spyderco Military. Huge lock cutout in the handle for easy access with one or two hands with gloves, and even though it's easily accessed it doesn't unlock itself during use.
