Curious as to who you think has a great looking site. One of the sharpest (no pun intended) sites I have seen is neil Blackwood's. http://blackwoodknives.com/ What other sites do you like, besides bladeforums of course.

I agree with Mark on his choice of Triple Aught Design. Patrick does a fantastic job of updating this site and has up to date info on Microtech.

"Best overall knife related site" has to be Triple Aught Design. Not only is it easy to use, it's damn good looking and Patrick keeps it up to the minute! I check it at least once a day. (Check out his links section, talk about diverse tastes)

Honorable mention (in no particular order) goes to:

Les Robertson
Knife Art
Arizona Custom Knives

In the "Most potential in a new web site" category I'd have to say Reese Weiland's site is pretty nice for as new as it is.

In the "Best site I really never seem to find time to go flip through", Sword Forum International has beautiful photography.

"Best logo on the opening page ever!", goes to Custom Knife Directory (It's a must see/play with)

"Best knife related forum" has to go right here. Bladeforums.com

I think Newt Livesay's has to have the award for "Most Garish". Great knives, but the website needs serious work

Split choice between Les Robertson and Triple Aught Design.

Well done Les and Patrick - keep up the good work. Only comment is that Les could try to update his site as often as Patrick!

Best knife disucssion site - can't think at the moment, but there is one called blade something that I seem to spend too much time on answering posts.

"Best looking" to whom?

One of the sites put forward as good only comes up as a blank white page to me. Another has the ludicrous text "this site is best viewed at 1024 x 768 and with Today's Highlight" prominently on its front page. Most of them forces users to do horizontal scrolling for no good reason. Several have chosen to suggest colours in ways which will ensure some text and/or links will be either invisible or hard to distinguish for some users.

I could go on. But I won't, because I know most people aren't much interested in fixing these kind of problems. (Pity though, that such small changes could make lots of sites so much more usable.)

Well, most of my favorites have already been linked. But Nordic Knives has recently redesigned their web site. It's a lot better than before, and Dave Harvey promises more upgrades soon. They carry the full range of Randall knives and can get you a custom Randall faster than ordering from Randall. Their selection of custom knives is now searchable by knife type and maker:

Although it has been mentioned already, Don Fogg's web site is a thing of beauty. For sheer depth of content and useful information for both makers and collectors, it receives my highest compliments:

You guy's are right ... There are a number of excellent looking sites out there. I wish we could use a lot more of an artistic approach in the designs we build at Atlanta Virtual!

We tried that a few times by incorporating "Flash & Shockwave" elements into our core designs, but our statistics revealed that a lot of the site's users were getting lost in the circus, so to speak. The maker's that we build sites for expect a different result from their sites. They want "deep page penetration" by every new visitor ...

There are only two possible approaches to a core design, in fact. One is to build an "Art Gallery" with the project. The other is to build a "Knife Selling Machine".

Since all of our work is designed for the later, it has to include certain elements which tend to make it less interesting than what would be possible otherwise. The simple fact that we were noticed (above) for having the "Best All-time Logo" at the http://www.customknifedirectory.com shows that it's very important to include a "bang" element in all good site's now days. But, if you polled the makers who sell their work from the CKD, you'd find that what they voted for as the best element in that particular site was it's ability to "move" their available designs and create new orders.

My questions are ...

"Who gets the award vote for having the site that sells the most knives worldwide?"

"Who gets the award vote for building the largest customer base the quickest?"

Those aren't very prestigious awards from an art standpoint, but I'll guarantee those are the most coveted awards if you poll the serious players out here in the industry...

Thoughts?

I must give 100% of the credit to Bob Doggett!! At this time I haven't even changed a picture or added anything new. I don't want to mess it up! Also, ANYONE considering a website host should get in touch with Alex at Atlanta Virtual. He made the entire registration and name search a breeze!!
Thanks for the compliments and thanks again Bob!!
