Hi!

I am new here, but I have browsed these forums a lot and I have got lot of good information:)

I have decided to buy knife and I have ended up to buy to 2 knives. One medium size fixed blade and one small knife.

For medium size blade I have decided to get ESEE RC-4 or Fallkniven F1. Not sure yet which one.
For small knife just some cheap mora.

I know there is lot of threads about RC-4 and F1 knives and both are good choises.

I am wondering which is better combo:
1. RC-4(1095 carbon steel) and mora(stainless)
2. F1(laminated VG-10) and mora(carbon)

I would use my knives for all purposes (food preparation, carving, fishing and battoing, constrution yard etc.)

I live in area where is subartic climate. So when it's winter there is snow and when it's summer sun shines or not :P

Seems to me like you want knives that are similar in size.I would jump up to an ESEE 6 or a BK7 for my larger knife. It would offer you more versitality.

Well, since you live in place where its snow/cold/wet id recommend the Fallkniven F1. The thermorun handle fully covers the tang, meaning it wont be so cold on the skin if used without gloves. Besides when wet the micarta takes time to dry, where as the thermorun dosent absorb any water. The RC-4's handle didnt fit my hand as well as the F1, i found it too short for my hands.

For food prep i find the F1's blade cuts with less resistance, as opposed to the RC-4's coated blade.

Fallknivens VG10 steel is easy to sharpen, and in my experience, holds an edge longer than 1095.

Overall i prefer the F1, although the RC-4 is a good knife if your hands fit the handle. So my advice is the F1 and carbon mora. Or better yet, a S1/A1 and a Mora!

This thread needs a pic of the 2 knives!

Definitely #2 given where you live, as Prop said, and also for your purposes. I have an RC4, and it's a nice nice, but not for what you're doing compared to the F1.

Thanks for the replies :)

Ok so the situation is tie, but fallkniven + carbon mora is better argumented.

A1 would be awsome, but is bit pricey for me.

I have handled both S1 and F1 and I think S1 has little bit bigger handle than F1 and of course blade is longer. But in use I wouldn't notice the difference. (I might be wrong, please correct if some one has F1 and S1)

I havent seen ESEE knives in any shop around here. Just in the internet. So It's hard to say anything about the feeling of them :(

Nice pic PropThePolecat!
