Which Mistress grind for chopping?

Just wanted to say that I recently bought my first Busse (NMSFNO) and it is pure awesome-ness!! As all of you know, I can't stop with just one...:D

I've spent hours reading threads on the various Battle Mistress models chopping and just wanted to ask a question:

Which model (or which grind) is better for chopping?

I've got a Junglas that I'm very happy with, but I'm wanting a much heavier chopper (this is my excuse for buying another Busse...:D) and just wanted to know which model of the BM is recommended.

Thanks.

I'm not sure which model will get the most recommendations but I've found a Full convex grind works amazing for chopping and splitting.

A convexed NMFBM  would be the best choppin mistress IMO

Yes, a NMFBM with a fully convexed grind is the best Mistress chopper ....

Does it matter if it's the CG or LE model?

Thanks so much for the replies. The two that I've had my eye on are the NMFBM and the FFBM.

I like my saber grind convex edge FFBM, but that's just me.

This is a tricky question because the CGs were offered in a cople different thicknesses (the Knob Creek was .3 I believe).

But... anything with a satin finish will chop better than a coated blade, so to save yourself money, you could get a CG and strip it.

The nmfbm has the deepest bite of em all but I still prefer my cgfbm over it. Its less monstrous then the nm, but It takes less out of ya if you use it for extended amounts of time. Its capable of doing anything a nmfbm can do and it, costs less, and looks way cooler IMO

Also, If I were you Id consider a B11. Its my go to blade these days. Its VERY comfty, a lot less $ and Real fun to whale on

Good luck with your purchase. I had a nmsfno before my first mistress (cgfbm), and let me tell ya, I didnt fall in love with busse until I first laid hands on that mistress, your gonna LOVE anyone you decide to buy I promise :D

What do you think about a Full Flat Grind?

IMO full flat grinds are fine for this type of work but not as good as the convex because they act more like a wedge and can sometimes get stuck while splitting. Not a huge deal but the convex grind just spits wood away on both sides. :D

Ok seriously I think whatever puts the most steel behind the edge. I wouldn't think the grind would be all that important but I'd want a convex edge.

Sorry Sir - No it won't and no it doesn't, but it does cost less for a reason:D

If I could have afforded a NMFBM, I probably would have gone with that one. I have a BWM and it chops well and it doesn't tire you out, allowing you plenty of time to cut and slice. The price was the best part. See my post on Bwm photos to see what it can do and what toll it takes on the coating. I would say the best knife would be any of the Mistresses (except FFBM due to the weight) with a Chris Reeve coating. CR uses similar coating you find on the Sig Sauers.

If you are looking for more destruction, IE a bigger heavier nastier chopper, the NMFBMLE is probably the nastiest out there (with a traditional blade design).

You can buy one of the NMFBM CG's for less money, convex the edge and strip it and it will be just as good for less money.

I had the FBMLE that I convexed, and it was a chopper for sure. at .32 with a full flat grind to a convex edge it was pretty gnarly.

The Fat FBM is a saber grind at .32, so it is a heavy beast, and a real destruction machine too.

The CGfbm is also awesome!

I think that the CGFBM with a polished convex is awesome.

If you are looking for something heavier and gnarlier than your Junglas, that would be the short list.

The ZKII is even gnarlier. 12 inch blade. More handle for moving your hand even further back.

If you get a CG (like I did), you will need to put some work in on the edge. I convexed mine for more performance.
