I'm fairly new to the wonderful world of Busse knives...just been hanging around the last month or so. I know I want a battle mistress, but not sure which one. I've seen many different options such as nuclear meltdown, fusion, etc. Where would I look to find out all the different BM options? I want to learn exactly what I want so that when I see it I can pounce. Thanks.

There should be a new model of the Battle Mistress coming very soon...

The Bushwhacker should be released in, what, about "two weeks", right Jerry????

They are all great. I think that the CG version will be the best all arounder. Thinner, and less heavy. still chops great.

I have an FBMLE that chops great. I convexed the edge, and it is a real biter. It is heavy though.

The new NMFBMLE would be awesome because it is full convex from the factory and at leas an inch longer. It is a bit thinner, but the longer length and the convex grind means it is still a weighty beast.

The new Bushwacker would be very very high on my list if I had any cash.

Hopefully one day I can grab a killaZ

www.bussecollector.com or www.hogcult.com should help with pix, specs, and original prices...

Also, check out the "Nothing But Pics" thread stickied to the top of the Busse Forum's main page. After this, I suggest using the search feature: "Search This Forum" to gather more info on your BM of choice.

The next BM model seems to be the Bushwhacker Mistress and hopefully it will be released soon. :)

Good Hunting!

So, will the new Bushwacker be thinner and longer or what? What are the differences between the bushwacker and the others?

The ten inch Battle Mistress is the perfect size for outdoor and workshop chores. They are all quite heavy though if you want to carry one on a hunt or expedition. Therefore I would recomend a CGFBM (Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress) which is the lighter of the Fusion family. The fusion models have the best design and blade size in my opinion. The older Zero Tolerance BM is a much lighter version but might be a wee bit too light. Soon Busse will be offering the Bushwacker which is a 3/16" model which should be quite lighter than the CG Fusion which is 1/4". The Bushwacker might be the perfect knife for the outdoorsman who wants to pack a good-sized chopper in the Bowie tradition. My two sense!

Try going to a show if possible...or a chopping get together if they happen in Utah...you cannot beat handling them to figure out what works for you...hell..I went all the way to Knob Creek from Wisconsin when I was over in the US last year...well worth it:thumbup:

But watch out for spending too much...it is SO easy to do:D

I just got my first BM, a user FFBM. Went by price, like the looks of the nmfbmle, but for my first one couldn't see spending the money.

The Busse Collector site has a good spec comparison chart of all/most of the knives.

You can't go wrong really, as I'm sure you've heard you'll probably end up with a few BM's anyway!

Is the bushwacka going to have different options like the TB or just one option for all? Do we know if it will be a coated blade or what finish?

:p I wasn't sure if any such details had been announced yet or not. Guess we're all in standby mode.

We're quite excited too! I can't wait! 3/16th of an inch thick, 10" long and treebark textured scales. I'm in!

I've owned and thrashed on several. CGFBM FFBM NMFBM CGFBMCBT

All were fine cutters.. The Combat Grade is great as many have stated and may be the best all around.. I had one with and one without the cbt blade and I prefer it without but both cut nearly the same.. The FFBM cuts about the same as the others after a good convex edge was applied but didnt cut as well as the CG's before the edge work.. Mine had a pretty thick edge when new.. My favorite of the bunch is my NMFBM.. It's just about perfect.. It's a great heavy duty cutter and my favorite of the lineup.

Go ahead and buy them all... you probabaly will eventually anyway.

Me, I like them all for different reasons...
most of which has been stated already.

IMHO... best of breed is the 2008 FBM SE.
.270" thick, full height ground, and feels like the CG FBM weight wise.

A few of which have the beveled clip versus a false sharpened one...

Next in line for me is the FBM Recurve proto...
Again feels the same weight wise as the CG FBM, but still gives you .310" thickness.

But you can count on it... I'm definitely in for some Bushwacker goodness!!!

.

I have a SHBM, a CGFBM, and a FFBM. Of the three I like the SHBM far more than the latter two. However, they are all great blades. I just like mine to feel fast and light in the hand. The SHBM provides that feel, and I am sure the upcoming Bushwacker will be similar.

Lil' Foo knows it all, I go to him when I have a questions. But I would go with what has already been said, check out the specs on what you are looking for like weight and whatnot, and root through some of the threads about BMs here and you will learn a lot. Most people go with what they can afford first especially if you never had one before, then you get the other ones to see what they are all about and you find your favorite that way.
As for the Bushwacker, well, I"m not sure if you want to start out with the thinnest one avil and it's not avil just yet, just what everyone thinks will be the next production knife...
good luck

Well because it is the only one I have, but I love it and would not trade for a CGFBM any day of the week, or any other BM for that matter.
