Which Mnandi do you prefer

So excited to have received my first Chris Reeve Mnandi and while I really wanted a boomerang Damascus I lucked out in getting a basketweave Devin Thomas and Raindrop Chad Nichols. Will keep one for myself and save the other for a gift for my brother. Beauty obviously in eye of beholder but curious what people think about the Basketweave on the Mnandi. I’m thinking it’s the one I prefer for myself. Awesome little knife. Really perfect for pocket Cary. Do they get a bit smoother to open with time? Incredibly light.

I'm personally partial to raindrop over basketweave. It just looks more "classic damascus" to me. I also like the more consistent coloring and grain on that particular one's handle.

I'd keep the basket weave for myself simply because D.T. no longer makes Damascus. On a small knife like the Mnandi, the basket weave looks classy.
Personally, IMO the blade on a Mnandi is too small to see the full pattern of boomerang.

It would be silly of me to keep both and while I definitely agree that the raindrop screams Damascus (in a nice way) I find the basketweave fascinating to look at because it’s such a departure from the patterns I’m expecting. I just got and MKM with a Damasteel blade and it’s kind of dramatic in comparison. Both awesome and it really defines the Gentleman’s blade category to me now that I have one in hand.

I had no idea that he wasn’t making Damascus anymore. It is a really fine pattern and I’m leaning towards it.

Just my personal opinion but DT Ladder and CN raindrop are my two favorites. Boomerang is good looking as well. Really can’t go wrong with either of the two you have

If you use them, the wood tends to darken, so the differences in the wood is not a concern. Yes, the knives get smoother with use, and this seems to be especially true with damascus. Also, the first disassembly, and cleaning tend to smoothen them up a mite. Whichever one you keep, you will enjoy.

You made a good call, IMHO. Just acquired a basketweave Mnandi myself as an office EDC. Wanted the basketweave before they all disappear, so passed on a raindrop that was available from the same dealer. (Will pick up a raindrop in some other CRK down the road if I decide to get one.)

at this point I’m wondering if I should just keep the other one (instead of gifting it) and have both 😉😉. Kind of ridiculous I guess

One more question, of the two, the basketweave blade is almost impossible to open with one hand while the raindrop one I can open with my thumb. Basketweave much stiffer, should I take it apart and use the included grease to loosen it up or just keep opening and closing?

late to the game, but I'm partial to raindrop. nice pattern. take it apart, regrease, open and close a lot. just gets smoother with use.
