Which Mule Team should I get?

Quite a few up on the bay right now, just curious what you guys think.

From my own personal experience, I think I'd want the M390 version if possible (love that steel) and maybe the S110V second, but there are some appealing other options (Elmax? PSF27?)

My potential future MT would be part of my backpacking / hiking kit and would mostly be for feather-sticking and such.

Opinions?

Whichever steel you're most curious to try seems the obvious answer. I have a 204P PM2 (The Carpenter Steel equivalent to M390) and it seems thus far to be an awesome steel (My favourite stainless steel to date), but I have a Mule in K390 and as far as edge retention goes, it's in a different league altogether...both are very high performance steels and K390 isn't stainless, but I'm VERY impressed with it thus far, and it's not available (Or equivalent) in a folder so that makes it that much more distinctive in the Mule package IMO. I also took my Serrata the last time I was camping, and it still doesn't need a sharpening...very interesting performance from the only cast steel in my collection, and while not a Mule, it's a very interesting and capable blade (Not to mention that the design is great for a very wide range of tasks).

Yeah, my head is spinning a bit at the dozen or more MT steel options.
I suppose I could always just pick up whichever one is cheap on the 'bay, or maybe just pay MSRP from Spyderco.com

You'll only find the most recent Mule(s) from the SFO...for the older iterations you'll have to browse the secondary market.

The Mule Team project can be considered a Spyderco Factory Outlet dealer exclusive. MSRP is the best price you are likely to find. I've seen some Mules fetch more than double their original selling price on the Bay.

Sal's ongoing gift to steel junkies is selling these to the public for what should be dealer cost. The down side is they only make so many of each, so once those are sold, there won't be any more. If you miss the release, the secondary market is your only chance, so you'll most likely be paying a middleman markup.

I have one Mule. The K390, and lol,its pretty amazing. Edge retention and cuts and slices like a dream....

Surprisingly not much recent action here for the Mule... :(

I just picked up a Super Blue. :D
Need to fabricate or source a handle and sheath. Was looking for ideas.

Might try some Terotuf. Maybe a thin G10 liner.
Undecided how I will fasten it. Is it common for people to epoxy it, even if using hardware or pins?

Best way is to skip the epoxy and use just fasteners so they can be swapped out when you like or when you pick up a different Mule.
There are quite a few options from low prices on the bay to Halpern and some ti options I've seen around.
Personally my Mules are users so I picked up some G-10 jobs on ebay with a Kydex sheath. I think they were around 50 bucks.

Yeah, I've seen the Halpern. Threw me off because they all say "Halpern Titanium", so I was assuming they were Ti, but I think it's just the name of the company (which apparently has done some work for Spyderco), but their scales are mostly G10 it appears... with a few other options.

I may try to fabricate my own handles over the next month or so, if I ever get around to ordering supplies! Already have some G10 and CF, but I think I want to do something else on this, like the Terotuf I mentioned above, or Micarta (unsure which type though).

So the Sheath you picked up, is it the type that was folded over the spine, or the 2 pc that was riveted all the way around?
Have any photos?

Ah thanks for that link.
And yes I have lightly browsed through from the beginning quarter or so, only to realize that disappointingly a large majority of the photos on Spyderco Forum have been altered with the most recent update to not show up!? Pretty unfortunate. Hopefully they can get it sorted out because a lot has been lost photo wise. :(

I have a s110v and a CTS-hxp on the way. I've no experience with either. I'd like a shot at the cruwear and elmax

Elmax is fairly close to your XHP. Cruwear would be a good choice to go with the 2 that you already have for a little variety.
