Which neck knife?

I already posted something like this in General, but..

I was looking at the EsKabar and the Remora, but I'm not sure which to buy.

The EsKabar is my favorite in every aspect except it's length. 7 inches seems like a bit too much for wearing on your neck to me.

Any advice? Does anyone have the EsKabar, and if so, how does it feel when you're wearing it on your neck?

I have both. The remora is much smaller and lighter. What I would consider a proper neck knife. It does not entirely disappear under a t-shit but is not easily noticed. Thicker shirts and button downs you can't see it. I have the D'Eskabar and would wear it as a neck knife if around the camp and did not want anything on my belt or was not wearing any pants :D. I belt carry the 24 and neck carry the 13.

Thanks for the reply.

Would you neck carry the D'EsKabar when you go to the city for a day? I live on a farm and would belt carry it all the time unless I happened to go into town, in which case I would neck carry.

The problem with many knives like this is that they are not very practical. If you have to run, you endanger your teeth and eyes, as the knife will bounce forcefully off of your chest. If you have to use the knife it takes two hands to place it back in its sheath. Also, these are rather long, as you have figured out.

I have a drawer full of neck knives and most are now carried only on my belt or in my pocket. The only exceptions to this are two of the ones listed below.

More practical solutions are the Esee Candiru, the Outdoor Edge Wedge (I have 2!), the CRKT Minimalist, and the Cold Steel Super Edge (I have one).

The Wedge is practical and is actually useful. Many people skin deer or fish with them. They are easy to sharpen and secure in the sheath, but fly out when released (no jerking required). I really like the design. The steel is so-so but it sharpens very easily. The Cold Steel has a fully serrated edge and will go through boxes like a shredding machine. Both are very light weight.

No. I would not neck carry the 24 in town. I have neck carried the 13 under my shirt. As the above poster pointed out the 24 and I imagine the 14 are both pretty heavy so I would not go Last of the Mohicans thru the woods with it on my neck as it would surely bruise me up. Most days I carry folders as I live in the suburbs and fixed blades stand out too much and scare the local wildlife. In the woods or camping I am head to toe fixed blades.
