Which new EDC knife to buy?

I typically carry either a Swiss Army Huntsman, Spyderco Delica FFG VG10, or a Kershaw Whirlwind. I like all of these but the Kershaw I guess is what you call a recurve blade and is a pain in the butt to sharpen on my Edge Pro Apex.

I want a decent low priced knife and decided I probably will get a blemished Kershaw.

Choices:
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw OD-1
Kershaw Skyline
SOG Flash I
Spyerco Tenacious

I know the kind of leaning towards the Leek because it looks easier to sharpen than the Skyline. The Skyline does look to be a bit easier than the Whirlwind I own. I don't think the OD-1 is as popular so I am kind of shying away from it.

I am looking for something $35 and under shipped.
I am open to any other options. No serrations.

Have a look at the Boker Plus Chad Los Banos designs. I like the Trance, myself...

Good luck, Joepa150! :)

The Ontario RAT-1 is always mentioned here when it comes to value-for-money.
Can't tell you much about it, I'm waiting for mine to arrive, but it always receives praises here on BF

Yeah, one more vote for the Ontario RAT-1; I too do not have it yet... yet... but have done the research and handled one; it's heavier than I thought and a little on the larger side for edc (which is my preference)... but solid, inexpensive, and, well, pretty good-lookin too ;-)

One main thing to consider is how it will be used.

eg. The Leek may work well for a slicer, but may not hold up as well as a Tenacious for a beater knife.

Also, another vote for RAT-1 if you need a beefy folder.

Never heard of them but they seem to be priced right. Thanks for the recommendation. I will look into them. They look nice small but beefy.

Thanks. I will look into also.

I second the Tenacious / Skyline toss-up. You can't go wrong with either knife, both are great EDC beaters, and very easy to sharpen. I own both and I can say that they're a joy to use and carry. The Skyline received less weird looks from strangers than the Tenacious though, if you're worried about that kind of thing. Then again, the Tenacious I own is half serrated and has a black coating... some people don't like that.

I'd go for the Skyline. It's made in USA, has a flipper, and doesn't have a paper-thin tip like the leek.

Leek. You can get a composite blade (CPM-D2 cutting edge) blem from kershawguy for $3 more than you were looking to spend, but I think it's worth it. Edge retention is about the same as my S30V Leek. The Leek has a pretty flat edge, so it's very easy to sharpen.

Can't go wrong with the Skyline either. The OD-1 is discontinued, but it does look like a nice knife. If you're interested in manual flippers, the Zing is also worth checking out. The Flash 1 is pretty small. It's not so much the blade length, but rather the size of the handle. It is one of the most invisible knives I've EDC'd though. Deep carry clip, very light, and very unnoticeable in your pocket. I'd pass on the Tenacious and get the RAT-1 instead. The Tenacious isn't bad, but if you're looking for a moderately large, beefy folder, the RAT-1 is hard to beat for the price.

I am now also thinking of a Small fixed blade for carry. I believe it is legal in Georgia if under 5" blade. Plus I don't own any small fixed blades. Any opinions n the following? Mostly for everyday cutting.
