Which NO Do I Want??

Howdy,

After hearing the legends of Busse Combat and INFI, I found my way to this forum just in time to get in on the Tanker A opportunity (#17). Timing is everything and I'm hooked. My next will be an NO for EDC, but I'm at a loss as to which variation to cast about for. Any suggested favorite configurations from ya'll?

FYI, most people find the NO is a little large for EDC as it has a 6" blade and a fairly wide profile. Certain occupations will make it possible as will certain geographies. Are you asking about options or are you asking about models?

As Spearhead said, it is a fairly large knife. There are only a few locals and a few occupations that would warrant it as an EDC. Where do you live and why would you need to carry such a large knife everyday? Perhaps a different Busse model might be more appropriate.

Why, my Desert NO of course. I'll make you a good price on it with a superb Okuden IWB sheath. However, I can't EDC that bad boy unless I really pay attention to my movements (I'm rather small, 5'9"), for me it's not really very comfy while riding my bike and all that. I'll stick with my Mean Street and Assault Shaker for EDC. But the idea of having the NO on me is very tempting. It is definitely on the edge of being the perfect combo: EDC with good chopping power. Imagine pulling that knife in a self-defense situation! Wow!

Hmmm... Well, I was looking more for preferred options (type of handle, sheath, etc..) or desired variations of the NO, rather than a different model. I spend a lot of my time in the backcountry (I'm a Ranger). I've carried a 6" blade previously and found it to be about right for my needs. I'm also a pretty big guy and more able to comfortably carry a slightly larger knife.

Then I would try to get a NO-E with a satin finish. You never have to worry about the finish wearing off, and you can prepare food with it without worry. If you can't find one (likely) then get a CG NO-E and send it into the shop for a satin finish. Or you could wait a bit and get one from the new line.

My opinion on the NO, given your occupation, is to go with a coating. The coating will help keep your steelfrom corroding if neglected and will protect the flats from wear... for a while. Coatings that were available on previous models were the black crinkle coat and the desert coat. If you are looking for one of the upcoming NO's, there is no telling at this point what options will be available in terms of coat color or scale options.

Good luck with the choice.

i agree with Matteo, go with the ztno in satin. it would work very well in a crossdraw rowe sheath or strongside carry. i have one and love it. 6" x 3/16ths about perfect:cool:

My EDC rotation is;
When outside working, Beadblasted 1/4" NO-E in Kydex sheath(B_Bobby´s old Jackson custom)
Elsewhere; AD in a high riding Kydex sheath IB.
The NO is a great EDC if you do heavy work, but since mine has a V grinded edge (Almost a Zero edge!!) It can gut fish and whittle also!! :D :p
I also have a 3/16 NO-E with desert coating, but that one is NOT a worker. I would however bet it would work even better as EDC so go for the ZT version.... Maybe Skunk has one with coating..;)

The Zero Tolerance NO is a few ounces lighter than the Combat Grade, but those few ounces and the thinner blade make a big difference in feel, and after a few miles on foot in portability as well.

If you want this blade length but if weight bears any importance, you also might want to look at the Satin Jack.

My fav is ZTNO- I am thinking of getting the standard slabs or liners to fill out the grip a little. Skunk has supplied manyof us little piglets...;)

Ranger,
Welcome to the Busse forum, glad you stopped by.

Any configuration of the NO will suit you well, however I would probably also agree with one in 3/16"

:D:D

I like 'em all. :D I myself would like to have a Fatty NO, say in 5/16" INFI.

Thanks for the insights and the warm welcome. I think I like 5/16" already.... :) Guess its time to start shopping!

Cheers, RR

i have a 3/4" no that i would consider selling.

you would probably have to sign a waver as it's too damned dangerous for most people:eek:
