Which of these EDC's do you prefer

I'm looking to buy an EDC and have narrowed my choices to 3 options the mini griptillian 556, the ontario rat 2 or the spyderco delica 4 ffg. Which of these do you believe is better? I'll mainly be using it for simple everyday tasks but it may experience some harder labor when I go camping and fishing. Also please if possible comment the best site to purchase these the cheapest.

delica 4 would be my pick. In terms of "better" though, I'd say its mostly just design preference between that and the mini grip, they are both great.

Tie between the Mini-Grip 556 and Delica4 FFG for me. Both are excellent knives and rank among my favorites for each respective manufacturer.

Pros for the Mini-Grip: Axis lock, longer blade (by ~0.4"), stronger blade (maintains the full thickness of the blade stock for longer), deep carry option (just ask Benchmade for a deep carry clip)

Pros for the Delica4 FFG: Excellent ergos, better slicer (on account of the FFG), quad-position clip

They are all good, but very different knives. So it all depends on what features you like in a knife. And we don't know what you like. I assume you do! :D

As for where to buy them cheapest, I believe saying anything other than "from one of our paid dealer members" would constitute a "deal spot" and would not only be against the rules, but unfair to the good folks who are paid dealer members. Buy from them. They are the best.

My same EDC dilemma - 556 or Delica?

If you must have just one and fishing duty is included - the Delica - probably easier to clean.

But, for the price difference of the BM, you could get the Delica AND a Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter. Take the Ka-Bar fishing and not have to worry so much about dropping it in the lake. ;)

The Spyderco Delica simply fits my big hand best. The Benchmade has the best lock. I would pass on that other one.

If you have the money, grab a Knifeworks m390 ritter mini grip. It's amazing! Cuts a little better than the standard, and the blade steel is MUCH better. Only $129 or so, and I think some are popping up on the exchange here for less....

I bought my dad a standard 556 about a year ago and he loves it, but I much prefer the m390 Ritter version.

As far as the Delica, that's a tough one. In many ways, the Delica is the perfect Edc knife. Mine is part of a 3 knife group of favorite edcs that I rotate, the others being the ZT 0566 and the aforementioned mini grip. However, I certainly would not feel under knifed on a daily basis if I only had a Delica. Great knife

So I guess the mini grip vs delica thing is more about personal preferences. I hope I never have to part with either, but if you forced me to choose, it would be my m390 ritter mini based on aesthetics, steel, and lock type.

Good luck choosing, and I'm sure you'll be happy either way:)

I am assuming your budget is around $90 since you are considering a Mini Grip. With $90 to spend I would buy the Delica AND the Rat 2 and still have enough money left over for lunch.

I have been carrying the RAT 2 as my edc since April this year and I love it, although I do find the AUS8 likes to be touched up quite frequently.

For an edc I would suggest the Delica 4 though with its better VG10 steel if you don't mind spending a little more. I have a hollow grind ATS55 version and the saber grind VG10 version too. Both of these I have now retired and will be looking to get the FFG version very soon.

Unless you intend catching very small fish you might want to get a cheap fixed blade with a longer blade for your fishing. Also easier to clean. Something like a Mora 511 or a Mora Companion. Nice outdoors knock about knives.

i have both the delica and mini grips,,i prefer the delica due to its FFG..but both knives are excellent choices,

I've got few knives that do actual cutting better than a Delica, possibly none, and it has it's role for me as an easily replaceable, unashamed worker that I don't have to fear breaking or losing. However, if you're looking to make a purchase of one EDC that you're going to carry everyday for the next decade, I'd personally choose the mini Grip for the better construction, warranty, customer service, and blade replacement policy. The Ritter mini Grip is in my personal top 2 or 3 of best EDCs out there.

I have a delica4 that I got 2 weeks ago. Man that is a nice knife, so stylish and great ergos, grip, and blade shape is great. It comes SHARP!

Delica!
Great ergo's, disappears in the pocket, light weight, good steel.

I have a Spyderco Delica in Aogami Superblue. It is a fun steel to use and establishes a very nice patina rather quickly. The aogami version is also fully flat ground: see http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=823

Whereas they have been discontinued from the manufacturer at the end of the sprint run, there are still a few reasonably priced for the taking around the web.

Out of your selections, I would choose the delica for aesthetics and to EDC. However, the mini-grip with Benchmade's axis lock would arguably be a more robust choice for your camping needs, with the caveat that any folding knife has two hard limits for outdoor use - the steel itself and the lock, which is a potential point of catastrophic failure.

Does spyderco make the delica or a knife like the delica that is as good with a frame lock or liner lock I just don't like the lock back on the delicas
