I own both a blue 940 and a 690. They're both nifty knives, but the 940 is far and away my favorite of the two.
The 690 has a classic dressy look. It is kind of thick for use as a gentleman's folder, but if you're willing to accept that you get a lot of knife in the bargain. The grip is good, the action is smooth, and the blade should be up for most tasks.
The 940 has a sleeker, more modern look to it. The blue anodizing is pretty and makes it look downright cheerful--very sheeple friendly. I like the slim profile and do not have any problem getting a good grip on it. The action on mine is exceptionally smooth, even for an axis. The reverse-tanto blade is not my favorite geometry, but it has proven quite functional. Also, that blade is thicker than you would expect from the 940's overall profile. It has taken some surprising abuse without damage.
I'm not sure if it matters to you, but another advantage of the 940 is that it is totally ambidextrous. Every once in a while I want to carry on the left.
