SAR-4 or Active Duty?

I live in the conservative part of northern CA. I'm totally within my legal rights though, but this would be a first fixed to carry on a belt sheath. I usually just throw a fixed blade in the back pocket or mount it on my backpack.

I like how the Armorall for the SAR-4 is more of an open one, where the one for the Active Duty is for a pouch.

My seller has both of them, I've called dibs on the SAR-4 already based on rarity and pricing but I'm having second guesses on the length. Could one of you kind folks please wear his/her setup to let me know what either would look like?

Chris

I had an active duty "heavy Duty" and for me it was perfect to hold. Big enough yet small enough to do most things. For me I never liked the look of the SAR4. Too much handle to blade. Plus the active duty will weigh less. For those who don't know it's the one in the brown sheath.

the sar4 imo would make a very large edc. I would recommend the active duty or a sar3. I say if you have enough money to still grab the sar4 if it's a good deal. they are a very nice blade but just a bit large for edc tasks imo.

The SAR4's handle is pretty big.

Whoops. I might just have to tell him I'd like the active duty then. I love the look of the SAR series though.

I had a sar4 once, its a fricken beast. When I got it I was quite surprised by its beef, beautiful and Im sure quite functional blade. I feel it would be a good edc for Andre the giant. The ad is a great user and very easy to tote. Those leatherman pouches are awesome btw.

Ok so like... I'm going to look like a dumbass with it walking through the grocery store right?

I just wanted something more substantial than my 3.5" folders that I tend to carry, since I figure if I'm going to be wearing a rig to carry it, might as well stretch it right?

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm new to this area of the forum and I seldom post in this forum in general. You're all great.

SAR4 has the same size handle as SAR6, AD is about 1,5" shorter, for EDC you don't want to carry a small knife with large handle and small blade. I'd say SAR3 and AD are better comparison.

The AD is a perfect size for EDC for me. I have carried the AD, and the GW. I like the tiny bit more space for the pinky on the AD handle.

The Sar handle is great in hand, but, as some said, might be a bit big for edc.

If I were camping, or hunting, I would not think twice about that, but for carry in town, the AD is more compact, while still being a great handle.

Besides. The AD is just a sexy design!

I agree with Bigfattyt, the AD or BAD are perfect EDC options, SAR 4 is an excellent knife, but it is too heavy to be considered as an EDC blade. Here is my BAD with its pants:

And now without them:

And here just a comparison holding the BAD and the SAR 4:

And now the SAR4
