Which one gets it?

I started this new post so I could post some pics and get maybe some kind of vote.

I have one piece of stag that is just down right purty. The others are nice, but this one is knarly. I am having a hard time deciding between two knives, the 119 and 639.

After reading the responces from my other post, I just thought to heck with it and take off the handles of these two knives. The other (two) Buck knives I have modded had handles that I did not like (the 301, I can not do the saw cut plastic on any knife). These two have great useable handles. I have a few other 119s, and I got this one for $20. I have thinned the edge down a good bit, and I should have gotten some shots of that (maybe later). I use this 119 a lot and I have never taken the 639 out to play (not that I wont :D). I thought the 639 might look better with the saw teeth, but I have been using the 119 a good bit.

Which one should get the best peice of stag?

Thanks,
John

John, I think you should do what you like best, but, since you asked, I would definitely put the stag on the 119; the 639 has too much of a "tactical" look to it that I don't think would look well with stag. My two cents!! Whatever you decide, post pics of the finished product.

If one of them is going to end up being your "user", my vote goes to the 119. The 639 has a thicker edge and you said something about thinning out an edge on another knife?
I love the 639 but if I had both it and a 119 laying there, and I needed one for the hunt, I would be grabbing the 119. That my personal preference.
Nice looking handle material by the way!!

OK Guys, Little knife man goes against the tide.

I would put a narly, rough, big groove hunk of stag on a show knife. The 639 for my belief and purposes is a show knife. A knife I am going to make like 'Rambo' with.
The 119 is a knife/tool. Rough stag is great handling it a bit but if I am gonna carve some wood chips for a fire, cut some tent pegs because we left the sack on the garage floor or skin a big critter for an hour and a half, I want stag that provides good grip withOUT the extra knobs and grooves to poke my flesh. You want a 'pretty' 119 to only hang on the wall then go ahead.

Give me light to medium bumpy stag on my users. My Rambo knife can look cool....then if society breaks down, I will trade it for ammo or a water filter. Then you try something and I will whack you in the head with my Buck camp axe.

i am a 110 man and feel best stag should go on a 110! \
however if'n ya dont have a 110
then defently the 119 should be stag!

My brother has used a 119 since 1980 for field dressing his deer and doesn't think its too big inside a deer's cavity.I think its a good camp/utility knife to take.Espically should things go sour in the woods. It will be your welcome friend. This will be a good project for you.Let us know how it goes.DM

Thank you guys for all the input. It looks like the 119 has it. It may be a week or so befre I can get started. Last night I was walking towards the living room when for some reaons I turned to go into the office and hit the door frame. I have a SPyderco Milli in my hand half way closing it and it finished closing on my thumb :grumpy: :o.

I will keep you guy updated on this project. I am also thinkng of a few otehr Buck knives such as a 112 and 110. Only time will tell.

Thanks again,
John

Well Johnny,

If it were for me to decide. I'd go with the stag on the 639. About a month ago there was a 639 with fat stag handles on ebay..."Wow", it was a cool combo.

John,The antler your holding is way large for a handle.A smaller diameter piece would be better. Also if I were going to do it I'd change the front guard and pommel. You may want to utilize the burr as a pommel. Your call.Good luck.DM
