Which one is more fun to fidget with; ZT0450 or ZT0609?

Trying to decide between the two. Looking for the one more satisfying to flip and close, if you will.

Also maybe the Spyderco Ikuchi.

How do those 3 compare flipping action satisfaction wise?

I have a 0450CF and a 0609. Because of it's size, weight, and absolutely fantastic flipping characteristics, there isn't a better fidgetter knife I own.

It's also the worst at cutting anything of all the knives I have and that's why I only carried it when I was out for the evening. The 0609 is the total opposite when it comes to actual knife performance. Absolutely fantastic user although not as fun flipping, IMO.

Oh I see, so the zt0450 is the better flipper? What would you recommend I should get first considering the knives as a whole? I currently have the 0470 and 0462, I'm probably going to end up getting both th 0609 and 0450, just trying to decide which one t get first

The 0450 is not just a better flipper, it's a better fidgetter. The size and weight and how it fits in hand make it easier to manipulate and play with. Again, IMO and for my hand size, etc. I also have a 0452Ti and that thing might flip open better than the 0450 but it's not a better fidgetter. Get what I mean?

The 0609 is a great user knife. Yet if I try to use it to fidget with, I just don't get the satisfaction I do with the 0450. It flips open just fine and I love the rounded flipper tab. One of the things I find myself doing with it is putting the middle joint of my index finger on the flipper tab and hold the blade with my thumb and just rock the blade back and forth. But what it's really good at is being used as a knife and cutting things. It's slimmer than most ZT's, not just in blade thickness but handle thickness, too. Fits easily in pockets and doesn't pull on clothing since it's 3.6 oz. And it's 20CV blade stays sharper longer than S35VN. I'm a plumbing contractor so I use it for construction related things but I also work on my hobby car and and boat and it does cutting tasks just fine there too. I don't venture into the woods so I can't comment on how it performs there.

So I guess it all depends what you need most right now: a toy or a user? Again, all IMO.

Thanks for the in depth explanation, definitely made my decision much more clear.

I'm gonna go with the 0450, probably the CF version.

Damn every time I hear about the 452Ti just breaks my heart. It was my first ever ZT, 2 years ago. I didnt know it was a sprint run and I sold it, only to find out I couldn't get it again when I wanted another one a year later or so.

If you ever were thinking of selling the 452Ti, let me know! Thanks for the in depth info again!

There was a 0452ti on sale here just a few weeks ago.

You may want to consider 0470 as well.

I'd say that the 0450 is definitely the better flipper and fidgetter over the 0609. Honestly, the 0450 is probably the only ZT that I might actually want to still own at this point. Great little knife.

The 0450 is without a doubt the better flipper/fidgeter.

For me anyway, the 0450 fires harder/faster and it’s way easier to get to the lockbar. It’s considerably more thick behind the edge though.

The 0609 is a good knife (and a sexy beast). The 0450 is a total classic, and for good reason.

I guess I’ll be alone in my opinion. I like the 0609 better. My 0450 has a very strong detent and as a result the slightest pressure on the lock bar makes it a real PITA to fidget with. I’m never relaxed enough to fidget; always worrying about the placement of my fingers. When it does fire, it’s snappy and fast but the conscious effort undermines the fun. To complicate things, there’s not much real estate on the lock side to place your fingers. I wear large gloves, so your mileage may vary.

The 0609 feels better in my hand and flips the same time after time. It’s also more “drop shutty”, which I guess is popular these days. It also cuts better which makes it a better tool.

I’ve never understood the love for the 0450. For me it doesn’t perform basic knife tasks very well while feeling awkward in hand.
