An employee of mine (who is very new to the world of knives) has shown interest in a few models from various manufacturers, but he's shown the most interest in:

the 1990 Brawler

the 3650CKTST Volt II

and the 1605CKTST Clash

I realize it probably just comes down to personal preference, but would any of you recommend any of these models over the others, or have another model in mind similar to these to suggest for collection purposes? i.e. do any of you own any/all of these knives and are in love with them?

If you get the first one you can get it in a set at Walmart which is a great deal...and I like the knife... A great EDC blade

I have a Volt II PE and like it. Not my best knife but fun to carry. Quality is good for a low cost knife.

I'd say put down a few more pennies and step up to a Blur. American made with spare parts readily available and shipped for free from Oregon should you lose a pocket clip or screw. Kershawguy has some great deals on CPM-154 models right now. If not the Blur, then I'd recommend the Knock-Out.

If money really is an issue, as Chester said, the Brawler right now is part of a package with a flashlight and tacticool pen at an incredible price. A good introduction to the brand, but will soon leave you wanting more. The Blur though has been known to turn knife lovers in to mad men frothing at the mouth and emptying their savings accounts chasing those very rare models. But even guys with ZT 0560s are going nuts wanting a 0777 so whatever a person ends up with in the KAI lineup they'll love it and want more..... Unless they are a whiners who can't handle a firm detent :)

Of the three posted, I've always been a fan of the Clash. I will replace the one I let go one day, but I remember it being a favorite. Just so we're clear, I haven't owned the other two so I'm biased.

I will go ahead and muddy the waters a little more and recomend the RJ-1. It is on sale right this minute at big5 for $22, it is a better quality knife than the brawler. It also has AO and a flipper, but it comes with a deep carry clip with tip up or down options and g10 scales.

Of course, with all of the sales coming up this time of year he can probably 2-3 of the knives mentioned in this thread so far for the msrp of just one of them. It's also very hard to buy just one Kershaw, might want to give him a fair warning.

Of those three, I'd pick the Volt. Just seems like a good EDC size (slim, lightweight, good sized blade). If it's going to be more of a work knife, the Clash seems a bit more robust and may fit the bill better.

I tend to agree.

However, I say get the pack they have at Wally World now. Great deal, plus the guy gets some goodies

Ive never owned any of those so my opinion is completely un-bias! So of the three, the clash has the best visual appeal :D

OKN had a great suggestion, the Kershaw Blur can be found for $50 easily and is a great knife.

The package from Walmart is a good deal, I picked one up today. Check it out in the other thread, I am liking the brawler more than I expected to.

The Brawler is a great knife.
I picked it up at Walmart along with a 9 LED Flashlight and Tactical pen(all of this comes in the package).
I'm not a tanto fan but the Brawler's doesn't bother me with it being more of a modified tanto. The knife isn't super large but feels great in the hand, decent steel, speedsafe is very fast, and it's the perfect EDC size. Also has thick liners and the lock up is great. All for $20.

I'm sure your employee would love the Brawler, as well as the other goodies it comes with.

The walmart kit looked pretty cool. Pen and flashlight included. Just in case he wants to start some other collecting habits as well.

I like the clash its a sturdy knife with a nice size blade.I own the Clash and Volt 2 both great EDC knives if you want a slimmer knife go with the volt 2..

I own all three and they are all good EDC pieces. I prefer the Clash as it seems ti fit my hand better.

I like the Clash, Its like a downsized ZT 0350. Have a Volt dont care for it getting a brawler but havent held one so cant say. Cant go wrong with the Blur but its twice the price still a good deal though
