If you could have any traditional pocket knife with a value up to $75 using the following criteria, which one would you get?

1. The knife has to be easily obtainable today.
2. The knife can be one that you already have, but only if you would choose to get another one if someone gave you $75 for free.
3. The knife must be a production knife that is very usable, well-made, pocket friendly, and fairly easy to maintain.

I am mostly interested in a brand and pattern here, but if you want to throw in the handle material as well, then that would be great.

Please--one choice per person. I know you guys must be wondering about my sanity at this point, but I would ask that you indulge me here. There is a method to my madness, you know! ;)

Thanks in advance.

I'd like a mint Case Shark Tooth. I've been bidding on eBay but haven't won one yet.

If I have to name a knife that I already have, I vote for a stainless Opinel #6 or #7 (since it's pretty far from the price point, I would go for some of the exotic wooden handles).
Easy to get, well made, pocket friendly, easy to maintain (once you oiled it properly in the beginning), and incredibly usable due to its blade geometry.
I'm pretty curious to know how this thread goes. I suspect that the Case Swayback Jack will hit the podium...

I was thinking SBJ, but one of the AG Russell's I've been seeing on here is my next purchase. Maybe the smaller gunstock in yellow?

Case Swayback Jack in CV, no question. It's the complete package.

If you're emphasis is on premium steel with those guidelines, it would be a Queen 2-blader in ACBS--a jack, canoe, whatever tickled my fancy. You have to have a high tolerance for that first sharpening, though.

With some luck&patience, a GEC Conductor in either smooth bone/micarta or 2nd cut jigged stag. Might just be possible at this price.

I've got to go with Will - GEC Conductor if you can get one for under your $75 limit. If not, then probably a GEC #25. Here's a pic of both. :D

I would like to have another GEC Calf Roper with Black Micarta scales but I don't think it falls into the easily obtainable catagory. I sold mine and I miss it.

Since easily obtainable is one of the criteria, I would go for an Ebony handled Calf Roper.

So, if someone walked up to me and gave me 75 clams to spend on a knife, I don't have to think about it much. I'd take that 75 bucks, and kick in enough of my own money to get a back up damascus peanut. I can't help it, I've been so impressed by Mr. Thomas's damascus that I think I may have become spoiled. It would be nice to have a back up to the knife that has become my favorite. My precious!

Okay, okay, I know that's kind of cheating. So, 75 bucks only, Hmmm. Maybe a nice stag and CV peanut. If one is not easily obtainable, I guess I'd get a warnie mini copperhead like that one Ed keeps on showing and tempting me with.

I can't help it, I'm just nuts!:D

Keep 'em coming, folks. The more responses, the better. I am keeping track of the choices here.

If someone gave me $75 for a new knife... as much as I'd want another conductor (I see micarta and ebony eligible...) or love the #48 Jack (but I just can't do glitter gold, even with free money), I'd go for a #68 White Owl in either Bocote, Dead Skunk, Ebony, or Kryptonite. I have #66s with the clip so I'd pick a #68 with a spear blade.

Trand, you are not wrong about that Glitter Gold, bad acid trip sparkle:eek: really ghastly tasteless stuff:thumbdn: (don't think it's right etiquette to use the barf smiley here, but it merits it!)

Well, I checked and I would be $10 short on a GEC 85, ditto for the 56 Dogleg - except the glitter gold abomination which without a doubt I couldn't handle owning, so I would be going with a Case SBJ, chestnut bone and cv please.

A.G. Russell Gunstock in brown micarta. Even though I'm more into tactical style knives I've always wanted one.

I would find a knife from GEC and maybe toss in a few extra bucks. They've got so many different nice models I'm sure I could settle on just one.

Here's a 2011 Yellow Delrin 3347 version

The Case pattern (47) is readily available with many cover choices for well under $75.00

75 bucks and not just day dreaming? Well, let me think what I spend my own money on and have been carrying :)

I would find a single blade 73.
