Howdy, my first post in this forum, so please be gentle.

I'm looking for advice on my 1st Becker. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the BK2 and the BK9. I know, the traditional answer is buy both. Eventually it will happen, but that will be down the line, in addition to adding a BK16 as well.

So, which one 1st? I have a Swamp Rat Ratmandu, some smaller bushcraft knives in the 4" blade range, and machete's from 12" up through 24", so I have all sizes covered already. Main use would be general woods use type stuff, to include chopping/batoning.

I know this addiction will spread, and I've come to grips with it. :D

Since you already have knives in the mid range, I say go for the 9. It's just a hell of a nice blade, from smaller tasks, to chopping.

The 2 and the 9 were both my first becker.

Get the BK9. You can't not have a 9. When you get a BK9, your tires will wear more evenly, you'll never drop toast butter-side-down again, you'll always get an extra mozzerella stick, you car will gain 5hp at the wheels, and you'll have a pretty good knife to boot.

9, the 2 may fail to impress you, not that it isn't a beefy peace of mind, it just is what it is..

the 9 will blow you away, I guarantee... ;) (said with jjust a little Justin Wilson)

My first was the 2, BUT.
It is a beefy "Beast" and I find it is a Jack of all trades, Master of none. Chops ok, slices-kind of, baton's 2-4" wood, can pry open a car door. It rides under my passenger seat and does get some use, but not in the daily rotation.

I have a 9 on order so having never touched one I cannot comment. I suspect the 9 will serve my needs a lot better than the 2.
They are all fun to modify and have some serious steel.
Just my 2 cents.

I have a 9, I don't have a 2. I'm in love with my 9, I don't miss not having a 2.

I'd recommend the 9 and not the 2. That is just me though!

Just piling on at this point but....
9 is the answer!
I have both and I've paired my 9 with my 16. Probably the best combo I've ever had. If you throwIin a folding saw, you can conquer just about anything.
And it's like Bighoss said "You can't not have a nine":D

I just love your advice. You could have a daily column called "Wake up and spit your coffee out laughing, with bighoss."

I know I am in the minority, but I do not like the 2. I just cant justify needing a knife that thick and heavy for anything. I would get a 10, 12, or 7, not a 2.

I have both, and I don't think it matters which you get first unless you have a specific need (prying car doors ? get the 2. Chopping wood ? get the 9) since you're going to get both anyway.

Fun to agonize over it, though! :D

I have way to many but the BK2 was first then the BK9 --- but then as I was a buying I started getting Custom Scales for all my Knives { BK's } then went to all Custom Leather Sheaths and now I am broke and living in an Indian Village until I can sell some BK's.!! HELP.!!!!!! (get a BK9 first.)

Just get the 9, took me 4 Becker buys before I eventually bought the 9, which I said to myself, Self, you really don't need that..just made sense to have it. As someone said, "Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it" JUSTIFIED!

BK2 was my first. Used it to death for a year and the got a 9. Now I always go to the nine and haven't touched the BK2 in a while. Get a 9.

Hmm, I think I may go against the advice here and get a 9. You know, just so I'll be different. :triumphant:

Thanks for the insight. I was leaning towards the 9, just needed some reassurance.
